Forums - Sony - Playstation games now available on Android Market

Source

Ahead of the release of Sony Ericsson’s highly anticipated Xperia PLAY smartphone, Sony PlayStation games have begun appearing in Google’s Android Market. Five title’s became available in the Market on Thursday, including Syphon Filter, MediEvil and Cool Boarders 2. Currently available titles are listed for $6.38 each, and more are expected in the coming days and weeks. Sony Ericsson’s Xperia PLAY will be the first PlayStation Certified Android smartphone when it launches soon, and it will be capable of playing original PlayStation games downloaded through the Android Market. The Xperia PLAY will launch on Verizon Wireless’ network in the U.S. some time this spring. (Rumor is April 14th)

Is $6 too much for PS1 games? Considering Wii's VC sales N64 games for a bit more... I think its about right. However, its a real test to the Android market as most games there are free (ad supported) or only a couple bucks.

That's a very decent price. I would pay that for PS1 games.

considering how many people need to get paid from the sale of a ps1 game on a phone network i think its a pretty good deal lol

Virtual controls = no for me, and I have already got the ones I want on PSN

Well it solves the first but not the 2nd...

I don't know if you have read the reviews, but it looks like SE has messed up a bit, not really putting everything together. So as I am in the middle of my contract, it only really makes sense to wait for the 2nd generation from a personal perspective

Though with an NPG, I might just get the Arc 2 next year

I did. Most of them don't like the dim screen but it was intentional, no reality display or bravia engine in this device to avoid battery problems. Their heavy costumized UI is shit though, too laggy. However, they got away with it in x10 which was a huge success. so I doubt this will affect sales.

They have MASSIVELY pared back their custom UI, and have reatcted to the criticisms on the x10 by launching on 2.3 not 1.6 so I feel they have done well. The issue wasn't a laggy skin, it was lack of games (which i would expect at launch) and muddled game purchasing places..
