Forums - Microsoft - the stupidest mistake Microsoft made with Xbox360

only rrod is a legitimate mistake

everything else worked out pretty well, especially the first party stuff, nintendo is the only other party who could repeatedly ship a 6 million selling game every year for the last 5 years

Around the Network

I only think that the super RROD prone early models where a big mistake.  Everything else worked out pretty well for the 360.  It would have been nice if the 360 would have came with a HD-DVD drive instead of a DVD drive but for that to happen it would have had to launch like six month later and MS was in a tight spot because of a bad business deal with NVIDIA and had to launch the 360 ASAP.  Also a HD-DVD drive would have added a lot to the cost of the console which would have hurt sales.  If the 360 would have had a HD-DVD drive the format wars probably still would have been going on now which wouldn't be nice I'm glad that Blu-ray won because it is the better format.

^^^ i didnt even know he was responsible for that, good, that was dumb

I would say the X clamp design resulting in RROD.  That's obvious.  Besides that, what is the stupidest?

http://gameplaytoday.com/features/general-features/4889-the-stupidest-mistakes-microsoft-made-with-the-xbox-360

Launching without the hard drive.

Mismanagement of first-party developers

Lack of policying on Xbox Live

No controller option for Kinect

Choosing DVD-9

No Killer Instinct relaese from Rare

No Web browser

No wi-fi built in till 2010

The Xclamp is a given, thank god the've for the most part fixed their hardware!

Kinect...I thought you did have an option to use your 360 controller...although with the games availible for Kinnect right now...it would be kinda pointless.

DVD9 was cheap and gave the 360 an advantage early on, so I disagree with this one.

The webbrowser would have probably been an IE based gimmic...and therefore would have sucked. I'm not convinced that not adding a web browser was a bad thing per say.

WiFi sucks for gaming, it also would have driven up the price of the console, now with draft N (far superior to draft G in both transfer rates and range I believe) being availible, and cheap, it makes sense to put it in, especially since more households are now wireless capable.

I don't think that Microsoft did some real relevant mistakes with the Xbox 360 they more than double the sales compared with the first Xbox and they get a big part of Sonys  market share to Xbox so that means indeed they do many things right. Nintendo does also a extremely well job with the Wii, otherwise they would not be the market leader.

Only Sony should real question waht they did wrong with the PS3 because they had lost so many customers compared with the last Generation and well I know many things there did wrong.

1) 599 Dollars at Releas that was only dumb of Sony.

2) Long time no good Games for PS3, people almost waited 3 Years bevore they get the first few good exklusiv PS3 Games.

4) Sony has no own ideas they only copy from others, Move is a 1:1 replica of Wii Mote, PSN is a copy of Xbox live. People wan't own ideas they dont want only copy shit.

5) The PS3 only get Shooter Games former popular Genres on PS2 like JRPGs or Jump and Runs  completely miss on the PS3. People want variations they dont want only Shooter Games.

Taht is only a short list wat Sony did wrong with the Ps3, is has definetly a Reason why Sony is on the 3rd place with the PS3 and why they lost so many customers.

sorry for the DP...but wow...really? Was that necessary?
