Forums - Nintendo - 3DS Memory Spec Revealed!

o_O;

After a thorough teardown of the 3DS and its components, Chipworks was able to figure out how much RAM the 3DS has. X-raying the chip in question, the Fujitsu MB82M8080-07L, led to a special model code being discovered inside the die. From the number Chipworks was able to conclude that the 3DS comes with 128 MB of RAM. The speed of the chip is claimed by Fujitsu to be 3.2 GB/s, which is about double that of DDR2′s capability.

Now, wouldn’t it be easier if Nintendo just mentioned that, without having to all X-ray on the thing? That’s Nintendo: making things difficult since Battletoads.

Not bad.

Cool. Yeah, not bad.

Would have helped a lot to put in some extra memory. Then again, doesn't look like the PS3 needs it :)

Did you say not bad? I think its amazing 3.2 Ghz is the speed of the PS3's graphic RAM I think.

128 MB is a bit short, but it should be sufficient I guess.

Not bad at 128MB at that speed for a handheld, at all. =P Now people just need to figure out the amount of VRAM and the actual speed of the CPU and GPU. I'm starting to understand why a lot of devs are saying it's pretty powerful for a handheld now though.

3.2 GB/s is not the same as 3.2Ghz btw, that's about half a DDR3-400 (PC3-6400) speed.

Wow IGN fooled us all with their "inside sources" lulz

Ok....I read it wrong..

I was like WOW! when I thought 3.2 Ghz.

I am now oops!

Double the DDR2's speed is still good though.

Figures, i mean Nintendo was and remains tight-lipped about the Wii, at least externally.

Shows that as far as gaming goes, this little number should far exceed the Wii, though there's a question of how much the background noise takes up

First of all, I know this is from the article, so I am responding to the author, not you. Second of all, the guy didn't do his research. Not only did Nintendo not make Battletoads, they have only been secretive about their specs since the DS.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

This means that the original images of the 3DS that were leaked by a factory worker were reffering to the amount of memory accessable to developers, as it said 96MB on the screen (and now we know the additional 32MB is for the OS).

Also, this memory is freaking fast! way faster than the cube's (or the Wii's) 1TSRAM according to the source (which in turn, was way faster than the regular RAM)...

now I feel bad for my Wii... there, are you happy Nintendo!?

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
