Alright I have had some time to now play both the SP and MP, so I'll give you my impressions of both.. This is the PC version I am reviewing and hands down this one of the best looking games I have ever played. I would give the nod to Metro and the original Crysis, but this game has alot shaper and clearer textures with incredible backdrops. There are very few popins I have noticed which did make me cringe a bit, but overall a fantastic job. Finally, with regards to the graphics the spectacular eye-popping moments are very plentiful and really just pulls the whole scale of intensity to a new level.
Next the gameplay, this is the smoothest shooter I have had the experience of playing, tight controls, amazing flow, and the suit mechanics all work flawlessly. Changing from aiming down scope to sliding along ground and fire from the hip the transitions were excellent and also the added cover system is a very welcome addition. Now for the hinderances, spoiled with just completing the first Crysis again, I have several complaints. The biggest issue with gameplay for me is that the immersion and feeling of being the one in the suit are gone. No longer does he bend down to picks ammo or grenades, or physically grab objects, or interact at the various cut-scenes or slow down moments, it just seems that is was a change that definitely didn't need to be dropped. There is alot of AI glitches in this game that I have noticed where people would just keep walking into walls, or disregard the fact you were there altogether even if you are shooting his squad five feet away. Enemies do just stand around sometimes, but as far I have seen the aliens AI is much better. My final complaint is that the simplification of the suit has very much limited gameplay options, sure I like that they have integrated the strength, but I miss speeding by enemies only to leap in the air grab their friend and hurl him at them before lodging a bullet through both their chests.
Sound is excellent with superb SFX, the scores are haunting and perfectly set the mood. Bullets and screams echo in corridors and really the emotional value is amazing when combining all these elements.
Finally the MP, hands down the most fun I have had with MP since CoD4.. I love the feeling of timing your max armor in the middle a gunfight, before sliding away behind a wall, only to pop out two seconds and finish unsupecting guy who has seen the comotion on his radar. The MP modes are excellent with alot of new or different takes on various traditional game modes. If you are into the MP it is very very fast paced and you better be prepared to struggle your first several games. I do also like the fact that it not all about K/D, unranked games are played for fun which is kind of relaxing when you just want to get that little bit of exp instead of playing all out on ranked servers. The game also boasts a great friend/server list so you can easily favorite or add people.
Overall despite it's shortcomings I would say this game has been a great success, but definitely inferior to its predecessor in just about every way. I would give the game 8.5/10 stars and I am sure with incoming patches and DX11 support this will be bumped up to at least a 9, only time will tell.
