Forums - Sony - Machinarium coming to PlayStation 3 Microsoft not interested claims creator

I hate the design. So depressing.

But his upcoming game with those bugs in that tree looks cool, I hope they get that to Xbox.

I saw this LAST YEAR:

Update #2: Joystiq.com has received an official response from Amanita Design that states the Czech studio has now submitted Machinarium to Sony’s Playstation Network instead. As VideoGameBlog.net has stated regarding this issue, “The key is that neither game has been refused space on the platform — Microsoft has simply decided not to publish the games itself. Microsoft requires all XBLA titles be attached with a publishing partner, meaning neither Amanita Design and Golgoth Studio can self-publish the games on the XBLA platform. Sony and Nintendo do not have the same policy for the PlayStation Network and WiiWare, respectively.”

The second part of the bolded may be an issue (to be on XBLA and not Indie section there is a publishing partner needed), but WHY would anyone expect Microsoft to PUBLISH a title that appears on anything that isn't one of their own platforms.  The way this is phrased on here, which probably isn't surprising due to a site involving sales figures is a bastion for console partisans, is big bad Microsoft is a meaning who is CENSORING material.  This is not the case.  It is a case of Microsoft not wanting to publish anything that isn't exclusive to their platforms.

microsoft shouldnt publish something thats going to be on another platform i agree, but microsoft should update live policy, its quite archaic. if they updated live policy so people could puclish their own games then this would be a non issue.

There may be managing of Live, and software offerings by Microsoft that have them deal with publishers, rather than indies.  The Indie Games platform seems to be the place Microsoft wants for developers who aren't publishing partners.  The thing that happens in the corporate world is that corporate policies will lead them to sometimes miss out.

cool, might give it a go.

It was actually announced for the Wii even before the HD consoles.  But the hd fans had such a ruckus that they decided to make an HD version. No big loss as the Wii will still get the SD version of the game and probably get released before the PS3 version anyways.  Wikipedia the game and you'll know.  Otherwise you can just click on this link:

Yeah, it's too bad they lost SOOO MUCH profits from damn pirates!!! Those damn pirates just downloaded the game with no regard on how their actions affected such a small independent developer.  I was actually surprised it came to the HD console as it was announce as a Wii only title.  But I am happy that the developer will get a chance to recoup it's investment by having more people enjoy it.  I kinda' wish it also came out on the 360, but I was already planning to pick this up on the Wii even before the HD announcement.

I guess they could get Sony to publish the game, on XBL, that way Sony will get a cut from every XBL sale.

It's a bit silly really. It's not like this game is a system seller and if MS would make a buck every time the game was purchased off PSN/Wii network then why not be the publisher so that Xbox 360 owners can enjoy another quirky indie game. PR-wise it's good for MS to be the publisher to show support for indie devs. Really there's no downside to MS being the publisher for indie games published on all platforms.

@oni-link  probably why they want it on consoles, because of those damn pirates
