So How Big is Rage Gonna be?

Biggest non-CoD multiplat... 14 14.74%

In the Battlefield Bad Company ballpark (>5M) 27 28.42%

Think Far Cry 2 (<5M) 31 32.63%

Lost in an already overcr... 22 23.16%

Total:94

Multiplat FPS games other than CoD have done reasonably well this gen, though nothing has come close to CoD, or the 360 exclusive Halos (even the "expansion pack" ODST has sold more than the combined sales of any non-CoD multiplat). But none of the non-CoD titles has really set the world on fire. Bad Company 2 is the only title to crack 5 million.

So where does that put Rage? It's a title with a significant pedigree behind it, but that pedigree includes game that predate the birth of a helluva lot of FPS gamers. There's little doubt it will be an amazing looking game, and I defy anyone to seriously suggest it won't get really high review scores. So the stars are alligning for it to be a serious contender to be the best selling non-CoD multiplat FPS.

Can it be the first non-CoD multiplat FPS to break 10 million?

Brief answer - no.

It's a new IP, with some fresh FPS ideas but nothing revolutionary from what I've seen so far. Will be lucky to break 5 million across platforms. Even Doom 3, failed to reach 10 million.

Its complicated

it looks to standout graphically

but there are a plenty of established franchises coming up this year

plus there are plenty of games in the same genre

plus games like uncharted, crysis, killzone are already doing wonders in graphic area

It should be able to break 5 mill if Bethesda put enough advertising behind it, the developer pedigree is there and the game looks more than solid. It should as you say review well...

On the other hand this year is very crowded with AAA titles especially in the FPS genre and it releases between Resistance 3 and Gears of war 3 and both Dues Ex: HR and Batman: AC launch within a month ether side of the game this could hurt the initial launch of the game so it will probably be relying on good legs and strong PC sales to get it past 5 mill.

I mean Doom 3 between PC and Xbox apparently sold 3.5 million http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/sales-show-doom-iii-was-not-bad-willits so 5 mill over 3 platforms with 2 console platforms that are both much healthier than the Xbox and stronger DD and MAC/Linux gaming growth on the PC side, should be possible even if it doesn't carry the Doom brand, I am sure it will have from the makers of Doom and Quake prodly displayed on the box anyway...

What have you been living under a rock lol? http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/bethesda-parent-company-buys-id-software/ Zenimax acquired id and Rage will be published by Bethesda softworks. They also own Tango Gameworks, Shinji Mikami's new studio studio.

BTW since the acquisition id have doubled the size of their studio to 170 people of which around 40 are working full time on Rage so the game could probably make a profit from 2 million copies sold lol even with the what 6 years of development as the Rage team was originally just 30... The rest of the studio is working on the engine or Doom 4 which is aparently coming on nicely.

well it has been in developement since before Fallout 3 lol so I doubt there would be major changes even if bethesda wanted to change anything. Having said that the game does aparently draw some insperation from the first 2 Fallout games, as well as mad max and a dozzen other post apocalyptic movies, games and comic books...

Still it's a straight up FPS with driving and an inventory and weapon cusamisation not an RPG with shooter elements lol
