if u have a BC PS3, then i highly recommend u play persona 4 there are literally no RPG's out there right now that can top this masterpiece
I liked resonance of fate. But it was repetitive. The battles were fairly samey. And they way the made them different was gimp you. But you got to dress up your characters and fling them around and it looked cool.
I've loved a couple JRPG's on DS as much as older JRPG's from the best of generations past. But my favorite home console one was FFXIII. I liked it a lot, not as much as my favorite FF or other JRPGs on the past 2 home consoles.
And elder scrolls series is an RPG.... I don't understand pulluspardus's statement. O_o

i bought my console for rpgs (just like my consoles before ps3) and i was skeptical about buying some of the rpgs released also because of the reviews, but started grabbing a few and the reviews just dont do justice.
nier got pretty low reviews and it has become one of my favorite games, its not a traditional turn based rpg, but i still loved it
im playing through resonance of fate right now and i think its great so far
star ocean is also pretty good, i would give them all a try
lots of rpgs have been coming out and we have a few left this year that havnt come out yet, im finally starting to use my console now :P
do yourself a favor and get DS and PSp, KHs, the world ends with you, Mario & Luigi are simply crapping on the console Rpgs and its a damn shame too
Anything from the Atelier series (particularly rorona, iris or totori) its the next best JRPG series after FF Imo
Otherwise try Nier, Kingdom Hearts birth by sleep or Dragon Quest IX, all are excellent. Folklore is also very cool
If you are looking old school, then go the suikodens, lufias or grandia if you havent already
As a caveat, I loved FFXIII so my tastes may be completely opposite to yours, but I recommend all of the above

DS and PSP are the JRPG platforms this gen

^^ i can only speak for Xenogears that game is great, i heard great things about Vagrant Story as well, just aobut all of my friends perfer Xenogears, i heard VS was hard as hell. IMHO any RPG on PSN (US anyway) is gold. id say any of those classic PS1 games are just as good if not better than any of the current gen console JRPGs
