Forums - Sales - Analyst: Homefront Will Sell 1.5 Million This Month

IndustryGamers

It's been a tough go for THQ this week, as reviews for the company's much-hyped shooter Homefront were less than stellar and shares in the company tumbled well over 20% upon the title's launch. Nevertheless, THQ quickly got into damage control mode, and in an unusual move released first day sales figures (375k in North America). Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian sees the game reaching 1.5 million sold this quarter (ending March 31).

"We remain comfortable with our F4Q estimate of 1.5 million units of Homefront, following the company's announcement that first-day sales at retail hit 375k units in the U.S. We are also encouraged by the initial conversion of pre-orders to sales, despite some disappointing critic reviews," he said.

"Looking ahead, word of mouth will become more important as gamers explore the online multi-player levels of the title. We note that Homefront also launches internationally this weekend."

Even if it reaches 1.5 million this month, it's not a guarantee that the game will sell another 500k to reach the needed 2 million break-even point. Some titles have legs - and the multiplayer can certainly help with that - but others just trail off quickly, ending up in a bargain bin in no time.
