Forums - Sony - Just bought a PS3 today...

Congrats on the purchase. I hope to get a shot at Uncharted soon since I finally finished Assassin's Creed on the 360. Be sure to rent Heavenly Sword when you get the chance (don't buy it, too short with no replay). It's a fun way to kill 5-6 hours. My friend is playing through R&C right now (I'll probably play it in a month or two) and he highly recommends it.

Anyway, enjoy your new console even though I can't possibly understand how anyone would like the XMB. IMO, it's great on the PSP but once you get a lot of crap crammed in there, its weaknesses become obvious and navigation is overly cumbersome. I'll take Dashboard over XMB any day of the week.

 I know what you mean about the XMB getting crammed, but as long as you organise everything into folders its great. I mean an Ipod or something similar is pretty annoying if all your songs are unorganised without albums or whatnot.

The big difference with the iPod interface is the ability to scroll at extremely rapid rates through the items/folders with immediate results. With XMB, you're stuck with the analog controller vs. spinning the iPod wheel as fast as you like.

Personally, I can't stand it on the PS3 while I quite like it on PSP.

 Well obviously the Ipod was just an example. Its interesting you say you prefer it on the PSP - I couldnt stand it. I was used to using the PS3 XMB interface then came to the PSP, maybe thats why.

 Did you use it on the PSP first?

KH2 rapes KH story wise.

Anyhow congrats, I dont want to add you because you dont have warhawk.

@rocketpig

You use the analog to move through the xmb? WTF?

Yeah, I used it on the PSP first. The only real reason I like the PSP version better is because there are far less options in that version. Basically, I think the less items you have in XMB, the better it works. It's not well-designed enough to handle hundreds of options and frankly, if I were to put MP3s on the PS3, I think I would tear my hair out in frustration trying to navigate the menus quickly. The same applies to videos and demos.

D-pad, analog, whatever. Controllers just don't navigate menus very well in the XMB IMO.
