I saw both Kevin Butler ads for Killzone 3 on T.V., so that's not true. I've seen other PS3 ads on Cartoon Network and USA. Some during WWE. Yes, I see more XBox 360 and Kinect commercials. That's because Microsoft knows the U.S. is their biggest market. I bet there are a lot of PS3 ads in Japan and European countries and hardly any XBox 360 ads.

I am so happy Kinect is such a success, and MS needs to really start supporting soon as it deserve. Full support in MS part is needed ASAP.

Right I live in California as well. I don't know why people keep saying the Xbox 360 has more ads the only ads I've seen for anything relating the Xbox 360 are for Dance Central. The ps3 has way more ads especially for Killzone 3, PS move, and kevin butler ads. I really don't understand why people act like Sony doesn't advertise anything of theirs when they usually always do.

That's not true. There are plenty of PS3 ads that run all the time.

What CGI is getting at - I think - is that:

  • Move was designed and launched more as a traditional peripheral and to allow Sony to get "Wii like" games as well as hybrid (or dual support) titles on PS3.  It's done that and it's selling well as a peripheral.  I'd note that while there tends to be a focus on bundles from Patcher, etc. the Move currently isn't that attractive as a bundle with PS3 and sells more as a peripheral to PS3 owners. Hence it's doing fine so far as a peripheral and being bought for games as diverse as Killzone 3, RE5, EyePet, etc.
  • Kinect however was designed to launch more as a console extension and to create a new platform with 360, hence the far greater focus on Kinect as an interface rather than just another controller peripheral.  MS have also priced and positioned Kinect bundles to be far more attractive than just buying a 360 and getting Kinect later.  Kinect has also been focused squarely on Kinect specific titles vs Move's focus across hybrids and a few Move specific titles.

Both have done well, Kinect particularly well in US of course, respective to their individual launches and focuses.  What CGI is pointing out is Move in some ways has been launched and positioned more modestly than Kinect as a strategy against the Wii and not specifically against Kinect - i.e. when Move was developed Sony's focus was the Wii not Kinect.

Do you truly believe that? That Move was just developed only to get "Wii like games and hybrid games" on their system and to sell as  a peripheral to existing PS3 users. No they developed it so they could steal sales away from the Wii and as a console extension as well.  I think they are not doing a good job at that if I am going to be honest. They didn't design it so existing PS3 users could buy it if that was so then how do you explain the casual line up that they launched with . They wanted to bring the casual audience that the Wii has and they are not doing good at that it seems seeing the numbers.

As for launching and positioning the Move and it's launch modestly not true at all Sony probably spend just as much as Microsoft did probably just a little bit under. Are you really going to tell me you didn't see the many ads of Move and the partnership deals Sony made with Coca Cola,, Subway and a few others. The numbers for the marketing budget weren't revealed for Move but seeing the launch I would say it's around a few hundred millions as well. Many people before the launch said that the Move was going to outsell Kinect because it was basically the Wii HD even Sony themselves admitted they where suprised at Kinect sales.

Obviously I'm very concerned about these sales.

There is a $50 gift card deal with the 160gb (?) PS3 systems at many of the major retailers the last few weeks. I'm sure that helped sales; the release of KZ3 should have given it a slight boost as well. It seems like the bundles sold.
