Its kind of like Gibson v. Fender, or X360 v. PS3.

Really depends on what you want. iOS has a bit more fleshed out system and is more solid, but your going to pay a bit more for it by summer.

(I personally would go with a Xoom as they will probably drop in price a bit, and I really enjoy Android, but thats me)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I wouldn't get the Xoom. Reviews suggest that both the hardware and the software were rushed to market. If you really want an Android tablet, you should probably wait until somebody puts out a more polished one. Also, the software ecosystem is still quite weak on the Android side. There seems to currently be less than 100 tablet-optimized Android apps, as compared to 65,000 iPad apps. Phone apps will work, but trust me, you don't want to use them unless you have to.

If you like to tinker, you might get a cheap Nook Color and root it. Otherwise you should buy an iPad 2 once it's out or wait a few months for the first Honeycomb patch and buy whatever Android tablet is hottest at that point.

Well there is nothing wrong with the Android devices (Honeycomb will improve with updates, it's ok for now) but I'm gonna say something not many people will take in considiration when buying a tablet... but you're an American and 20 so you won't have the Android Marketplace payment problems like us europeans.. like the need of a Credit Card, (cause you can't charge it into your phonebill) exchange rates for buying apps in dollars (really? wtf google?) and then my bank charges transaction costs me for it!!!!!! GAAAAAHHH!!! A freking 1 dollar app costed me 3 euros... >_<" my transaction cost was more then the app itself.....

iTunes with it's gift cards is way better, easier and friendlier...

I'd prefer Xoom or some other Android tablet.

Spec for Spec

Xoom comes out on top overall. It has better cameras (front and back), better resolution, at least twice the RAM (apple hasn't confirmed RAM in iPad2 yet, but most think it'll have 512 or 256; Xoom has 1GB), standardized connections (means their cheaper to buy), few extra sensors, expandable memory, and first OS in market actually built for a tablet form (iPads is really just an scaled phone OS).

However, iPad has better overall market experience, lower initial cost when you consider the 16GB models, ... easier syncing with iTunes (however, I prefer the drag/drop method than auto sync of my media and I hate iTunes). More total apps (however, if you want something there is probably an app there for it on either system).

Additionally, the new Sony games stuff and the Tegra2 processor will have a probable bigger game centric library in a year on Android tablets.

Personally, I'm waiting for xmas time when there are tons of Honeycomb based tablets out with various sale prices. I should be able to get a Xoom level (or better) tablet with 32GB at least for cheaper than iPads 16GB model easily then.

It depends on what you want out of your tablet. Do you just want it to work? iPad. Do you like to fiddle with it endlessly and customize it to *exactly* how you want it? Xoom. Are you patient to wait for apps? Then maybe Xoom. Do you want to use it RIGHT NOW will full featured apps? iPad.

There is no right answer here. They're both good products. The iPad is more polished and has more time on the market so its feature set and app selection is richer. The Xoom has more raw horsepower.

One thing to note is that Netflix has NOT released an Android app yet. I know if I was in the market for a tablet, that might be the determining factor.

Although the iPad 2 looks much nicer, is cheaper, and has more apps. I can't buy one as I don't want to hear a friend on FB go on and on about how I bought an apple product.

So my advice is even though the ipad 2 is a much nicer deal, just go with the Xoom to spite Apple fans...

Sig thanks to Saber! :D
