Trasharm, stop trashing the consoles you bastard!

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Around the Network

I didn't like it. It wasn't bad but it certainly didn't feel like they put much effort into the PC version. Sure, it did run pretty good when I got it to run... But the game looks somewhat the same as the original Crysis and supposedly the engine is much further optimized than CryEngine 2.

Anyway. The menus are very console-ish. The 'press start' crap is the first thing I notice. Then there's the 'rotating' menu. It's slightly annoying and not very PC-like at all. There's three graphics settings with no more detailed tuning - extremely annoying, I'd like to fine-tune my settings for optimal performance. Also, aim-assist. It shouldn't even exist in a PC game, that's how I much I hate it. Takes away from skill.

Then there's connection issues. I'm not sure if the server list is working correctly: probably more than half the time I try to join a server, I get the message 'server is full' even though it doesn't seem to be full. Sometimes I just can't connect. When I finally can connect, I may end up getting stuck in the lobby (there's enough players and nothing happens, the game doesn't start) and having to change server. Why do we need a lobby in the first place? And why is there no ready button or anything to start the game when there's enough players? Also, a rare problem, one I actually managed to get on a server and into the game, the game threw me out from the server before it actually began: for half-a-minute or so it tried to start the game and failed, then threw me out.

Let's talk gameplay next. The suit functions feel a bit too simple for my taste. Armor mode is armor mode, nothing special about that. Then there's cloak mode, not much to say about it really. And then there... whatever it is, power mode? Not sure what it does, more powerful melee or something? Anyway, by default there's no mode and power mode is activated when you do... something? Armor mode drains power all the time when you activate it, the same goes for cloak mode. I miss speed mode, the game does feel a bit simple with currect suit functions.

The maps are somewhat small, and compared to the maps in the first game, extemely small. They're not bad, they just feel CoD-ish. And so does the whole game to a certain extent. Besides, the only gameplay modes are team deathmatch and some hold-the-area mode. Boring, I say.

The game isn't bad, there's just no reason for me to ever play the multiplayer. The menus are extremely console-influenced, getting to a server is an extremely annoying process, and gameplay itself is nothing special. It certainly feels as though they've forgotten PC gamers almost completely. Optimization and actually having the PC version are the main things they've got right about the PC version, as well as dedicated servers. Other than that... Well, personally I can't recommend this game. I really liked the first game and wanted to give this one a chance just because of that, but this is much worse than I ever imagined. If this is any indication of what the single-player campaign might be like, I'm not going to like it. Too bad they decided to release a MP demo instead of a SP one.

EDIT: Tried it again today. Got to play without any issues, either I was lucky or more likely, they've fixed the majority of network issues. That, or there's actually much less players.
