Well he is right sooner or later home consoles will be replaced with portable powerfull enough to run those games on the hd tv so you wil be able to play on the train and then put your handheld into docking station at home with connection to tv and gamepads.

Once portables can run 1080p @60 fps it's game over for home machines.

NGP really is turning out to be a developers system....if the price is right, marketing and so on it could be bigger than PSP.

altrough i was bit wrong as nova 9600 is only dual core but with clockspeeds reaching 2.5Ghz

So if Sony for example releases NGP in early 2012 for US there already might be faster tablets/phones on the market.

Well no.

Home consoles will always be stronger than handhelds.

As handhelds grow more powerful, home consoles do as well.

The bigger, the stronger.

And besides, he's delusional if he thinks home consoles are going anywhere anytime soon.

That's kinda true. The movement to handheld is quite scary rn.

 

But ofcourse I doubt it'll stop progress on home consoles.

Even if those SoCs release at the time they say they will, it will still takes months for them to appear in smartphones and tablets.

In addition, even if they are as powerful as the NGP, the NGP will still have a generation or more advantage because games for it will be written closer to the hardware and optimized for a single machine, unlike games for smartphones which have to go through higher level (and slower) APIs. John Carmack said something to this effect when the NGP was announced. It's the same thing with PCs and consoles. A PC with similar specs to an Xbox 360 wouldn't be capable of running games at the same graphical level.

Yes but that's not what i was talking about.

What this means is that there will be lot of competition in high end SoC market so this will reduce prices of SoC in NGP.

Well every McDonalds in New Zealand has free WiFi (500MB per session limit). So I can see gamers congregating around McD's to get their online gaming done, rather than paying through the nose for thrugh 3G.
