I hate reading football threads that are dominated by Americans and all the American-ised terms. WTF is 'flopping'? Then ties (DRAWS), 2 to 1 (2-1).

Then theres some [guy] who think USA beat England 1-1???? That was a draw out of luck due to a rather embarrassing goalkeeping error (although that puts it mildly).

Oh, and then theres some idiot who think USA beat England 1-1???? That was a draw out of luck due to a rather embarrassing goalkeeping error (although that puts it mildly).

Well, I only used 'flopping' as that was the verbage being used to describe the act. It's hardly a dive.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Also, this is what I referencing whenever US beat England 1-1.

He did something similar, but I can't find a video of the one closest to the game.

This one is still kinda funny.

And the Refs! The Refs! Fifa is horrible at managing the quality of their refs. Why is Fifa afraid of quality control?

I'll give credit to where credit is due. Soccer is great exercise, and a game in its purest form; no flopping, ties, incompetent refs, aswell as with a team you care a little bit about has potential to be somewhat enjoyable.

I'll never be 'into' soccer until flopping and ties are abolished.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I do still enjoy watching it whenever it's on TV (and especially during any major tournament), but it will never pass up football or basketball until flopping isn't commonplace. I don't mind ties as much though. (Hey, US still beat England 1-1 in my book! )

A tie is like kissing your sister.

and this is a meaningless debate because we all know the best sport is Baseball (best team Cardinals, and best player Albert Pujols).

;>)

Baseball rocks. And Ken Griffey Jr. is one of the greatest of all time(he practically defined the 90's).

I'll take American football over football (soccer) any day. I can't stand soccer. I'm not gonna say its bad but I really hate it.

It's a synonym for the same word. You know what is trying to be communicated.  I don't care what elitist terms you have.  Coherent conversating is happening.

Football and handegg are both awesome, but to truly appreciate them both you shouldn't gauge one sport by the standards of the other. While both sports are usually played on grass or astroturf and in teams of eleven, they are as different as real time and turn based strategy video games, because... well, because they are in essence a real time game and a turn based game.

That is indeed a great comparison!

But...but...they won't stop.

I'll stop if they stop

This is a doomed thread.

But this is the mentality for both sides, so it'll never stop. Go watch tennis!

xD Well... I guess it's pretty realistic since I've seen those ads in football matches from europe on TV :P But it's funny to see those on the 3DS.

BTW, I just found out it's already released in Japan :O. I should try to keep up with gaming news :P.

you guys watch football in europe? i always thought you were soccer people.

looks like europeans do have good tastes in sports after all. :)

There is a good reason why Handegg is not popular all around the world and football is.

Handegg, on the other hand, looks like rugby for pussies inside their helmets.

Indeed. That's why most soccer players act and look like complete pussies with all of the overreacting and flopping on the ground.

Honestly, I enjoy watching it, but the sport will never be popular in the States until that part of the game gets cleaned up.

I can guarantee you that lots of people love the fact that Football is not popular in the USA. You can search for your reasons wherever you want, but I think that trying to impose the name soccer around the world during the late 80's and 90's to a sport that has more than 100 years in countries as mine didn't quite help.

Imagine in a futuristic world in which you and your mates consider China (or whatever) an empire who has been bulling your country and many others, you have no way to stop the cultural penetration (you like it or not, it's part of you life and who you are) and they come and say... "Ok, we can't call rock and roll rock and roll anymore, cause it gets mixed up with a meal we have down there in China, you know. Why don't we all call it sucker instead?"

On the other hand, what seems to be the characteristics that make football not popular in the USA is exactly what makes it popular all around the world.

Ps: I know football is a sport made popular all around the world by english people (lots of english merchants radicated in  South America, specially when they were building trains for our goverments in the late XIX century, but even before as our independence from Spain had a lot to do with english smuggling) and it could be consider a colonial heritage (or a sing of cultural penetration). But no one feels that way in countries as mine.
