Only in the Netherlands. Here in Romania (for example) people are scared of marijuana due to Government propaganda.

Actually, in the US the severity of laws vary greatly by state with the Western half of the nation having very minor laws with punishments only equivalent to a traffic ticket while many Eastern and Southern states will throw a person into jail for even small amounts of possesion. Because the US lets our states regulate our laws relatively freely  people live under very different rules depending on where they reside.

Too confusing. More centralisation!!!

Canada is way bigger then the US yet we opperate with federal laws. If drinking and driving is illegal in one province it is in all. The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and I believe it would be classified under section 1 dictates across Canada smoking weed is illegal. In the same way many other laws are enforced across Canada in federal law.

Their are a few provincial laws, but the federal laws cover most of everything and are enforced nation wide. Unlike the US which relies heavily on state law. Canada is far more unified then the US legally. Now that being said getting caught with weed in Canada (Small amounts) usually results in a slap on the wrist not heavy action.

we are going in a topic direction that I do not wish to discuss, but I can tell you that Americans are taught from an early age about why we seperate federal and state so heavily to avoid the tyranny we fought to free ourselves against. My country chose to fight for freedom yours did not so there is little wonder that even Canada and the US have very different viewpoints on how  power of legislation should be distributed.

If you wish to discuss this issue further make a thread about it or write me on my wall because this is a thread about Marijuana.

I was obviously kidding.

(Though honestly I don't think all the freedom the individual states have in your country is healthy overall, I mean you guys had stupid bloody civil war, and people from different states still hate eachother).

In the American's defense, their country does have a huge population, compared to your counbtry. Heck, my countrie's population is not that small compared to yours (22 million vs. 34 million). I don't know what you guys do with all that free space. Maybre you should sell some to Chine

Thanks for the discussion so far (from just skimming over some of the new posts looks like there has been pretty decent discussion going on).  A lot more in depth posts were made in my absence than I expected.  I will have to read them tonight and reply back on a few.

lol, no our free space is whats going to make Canada rich. All the farmland that is currently unused, all the huge forests, moutaints with minerals, fresh water and oil. Our countries sitting pretty with such a small population to support that is pure profit for everyone in our country.

That being said we only have almost 34-million people. If a country like the US or Russia decided to invade us for our resources we'd be pretty screwed. However everyone will want our resources so I have a feeling Birtian and the EU would want a peice too if the US invaded, if Russia invaded the rest of the world would come to our aid.

In other words our country will be damn rich in a few years, if someone tries to invade other countries who want our resources will come to our aid.

Only problem is Canada won't know who its legitamit allies are and who are the ones using us for our resources. Sorta like how a rich guy doesn't know who to trust, who likes him for who he is and who wants him for his money!
