Forums - Gaming - Why all the FPS hate?

Not BECAUSE it's popular, People think the genre doesn't deserve to be that popular ,many people want games to move thier emotions , they need a great story and characters , FPS genre doesn't have depths in it , it's might deliver the fun factor but that's it .

As for myself I tried to like the genre many times , when I start I think it fun and all but I quit after 15 minutes or so , also Physics/animations are important to know the character better therefore they are important factor in the story telling , for example FF has always been about stylish movements which make us think that the character is cool ( or emo for some ) , in general FPS genre can't deliver what I want to see in my games , but I can totally understand  why some people like it.

To be fair the genre that used to give us those types of games got stuck in the past and refuse to move foward.

The fun factor is what gaming is all about. I don't mind RPG'S and have played a few,but not everybody want's to playthrough a 100hr RPG. I've played FPS'S for years and have never gotten tired of them. In my humble opinion,I think they do deserve to be that popular and then some, but at the end of the day it's all about what you like and what's fun for you.

Bioshock, Half Life, Metro 2033, The Darkness, System Shock 2, Portal and I'm sure that I can go and on, but there have been heaps of First Person Shooters with rich and emotional stories. People just the genre because it's popularity is currently massive, it's always been very popular, they don't like the genre or they just suck at the games. It also doesn't help that some people's perceptions of the FPS genre is limited to games like Halo, MW2, Military Shooter No. 56 and Counterstrike.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

But that's not true.

Games like CoD4 and Half-Life 2 had some of the best storytelling in a video game.

I was talking about the general idea my friend , not the personal preferences ,have you ever seen someone say " Go get HL2 , it has an awesome story " , Good FPS has to have a good gameplay , the most popular FPS at the moment depends on the "arcadey" gameplay and online mode .

CoD4 must have had a story inspire by the real world wars , I don't know but that kind of stories doesn't seem to attract people much these days , I mean there is like a million movies have a similiar story. as for HL2 I don't realy know anything about it

plus , You hated FFXIII CGI , so you can go to hell XD

I like fps. I hate Call of duty and its clones.

Nothing wrong with a fps. The Darkness is my favourite and Resistance 1 my second favourite.

People who hate on fps'es have hardly played any of them and are usually just basing their opinions on CoD and Halo and Killzone. Although Halo and killzone are decent.

No,it's the opposite for gaming my friend.

I'm getting alot of attention , that's not good considering my english and all XD

without quoting every one on his own, I pretty much said everything , and as I said Physics/animations are important factor in the story telling , when you control only a hand and a gun it's just isn't the same even thought they started to add long cutscences which is good .

btw , Portal is one of my favourite games of all time.

Because a lot of people here wish jRPGs were that popular.

No the story telling is the most important factor in story telling.
