The only way that could happen if someone brings out a console with 1080p vr glasses. No more tv needed, built-in head tracking, and ofcourse cross-talk free / flicker free 3D. I would pay 800 to 1000 for that.

Yea if that was true it would be even dumber than some of the moves at the start of this gen.

I already addressed that. Another user said Pachter said if the console manufacturers do something special it will cost upwards of 800$. However later in the same video he says a thousand dollar hardware investment for next gen consoles. What does he consider special? The Wii was special, the PS3's cell was special. The 360's graphics at launch were special.
Seriously any advancement of technology is special. He doesn't clarify this instead refers to consoles selling at 800-1000$. That is exactly what he said.

If this happens, which probably won't since Pachter predicted it, then I am predicting myself not partaking in the next generation. Well, at least not until the price dropped to something reasonable.
One thing is for sure, for this next generation the most I would pay out of my pocket for a system is $450.
While I can't say the odds are zero, I think it's close enough to say that it won't happen. Nintendo has always been a more budget-minded company, and I think they're really going to try to stay about $250, MAYBE $300, but I really don't think Nintendo will want to go there. Sony has received quite a bit of criticizm for the $600 price (even though there was a gimped $500 model out there), and has claimed to have learned their lesson (re: NGP pricing) about the PS3's price. I think they will stick with a 2-tiered system launch, for $400 and $500, with looks to phase out the $400 model relatively quickly (ala the 20 GB PS3). Microsoft has seen their sales go up significantly by keeping prices down, and I think they'll aim to stay at no more than what Sony charges. I predict another 2-tier system release, going for $400 and $450. Should Sony keep their $400 model around, MS will be the first pricecut after release, to $350 and $400.

I was that user lol.
Later in the video he does mention a hypothetical $1000 system price to show the appeal of a $100 cloud computer system, he also mentions the hypothetical situation where the consoles are priced competitively to the cloud. No-where does he predict what the consoles will cost, he just gives several possibilities.

So people can actually hear what he said for themselves.
