No since it doesn't do UMD's.

I still have some UMDs from the 4 weeks I owned a PSP last year. If the NGP could play them then I would get it, but I will just end up buying a new PSP

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Not really because I still have a new PSP. I take very good care of my things and if it tanked I would just pick up another. I don't think that the NGP is going to get BC because honestly it's a waste of Sony's time. All these piraters can be to blame for that yet again.

... It has BC, and with visual upgrades confirmed as well. Though only with titles bought through PSN.

Yeah, I'm really excited about that prospect as well, and I'm really glad every NGP game will be on PSN. I just wish more games would be put on PSN, so I can actually get them.

Yeah, it is.  I'm definitely getting an NGP at some point, and without BC, I probably wouldn't bother.

But what's best about the feature is what it implies for the future.  I've long viewed the PSN as a hardware agnostic platform, and thus assumed that any game you buy via PSN would work on future iterations of that hardware (IE, PS3 > PS4 > PS5 and PSP > NGP > NGP2).  This tells me that Sony is actually going down that route, which is good.

Not including the Xperia Play though as they're forcing you to re-buy all of your PSN content (e.g.PS1 games) if you want to use it on the Play...

Was that ever properly confirmed?

Considering PlayStation Suite is cross-compatible with NGP, it'd be weird if you could buy one version of a PS1 game that'd work across PSP/NGP/PS3, and another version that'd work across Xperia Play and NGP.

I mean through any other kind of BC. Yeah it will BC through PSN but I can't play any of the games I bought for it hence why I don't truly consider it BC.

Then what does it have to do with pirates? Putting UMD in the NGP would have been a gigantic mistake, so I don't see how pirates had anything to do with it.

Destroying the sales of the original PSP. To Sony it would just be a wasted effort because not that many would actually utilize the drive. Also hackers would probably just start the entire process over through the drive.

I'm not following you. What I'm hearing you say is that because piracy took away a lot of sales from the original, Sony decided not to use UMD for the NGP. Am I on the right track? Because using UMD for the NGP would have been really stupid on Sony's part, regardless of piracy, so your sentiment doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

A selling point? No.
A minor plus? Yes.

Hmmm. I hope they do something about this, I don't really buy UMDs anymore, I'm all PSN downloads so i maybe have no problem with it, but maybe they could try registering your physical purchase through online and let you download a legit PSN game... I hope they do this tbh...

it will be two thumbs up if developers willing to add in NGP new features to play their previous PSP games with new way of controlling... ^^
