It will not.
it will maybe not be so popular around the MGS-fans or people who bought MGS4 and lovet it...because it is a totally different game genre-wise...the normal Kojima MGS is stealth-action...this Rising will be more action-orientated...Raiden is a Ninja...so this will be definatly kind of hack & slash like Ninja Gaiden,Bayonetta & God of War...and people who loved that game will maybe be attracted to Rising cause its elements...and gamers who rather play fast-action games like FPS instead of a more slowly-MGS4...they would be also a good audience for Rising...so if everything works right with good promoting and good reviews this could be a great AA title with a possibility to sell 5 million units...
lets say even if only the half of the MGS fans & buyers of MGS4 will buy this we got over 2.5 million buyers...with the owners who like and buy games like God Of War & Bayonetta casuals who will of course buy it cause they wanna enjoy a decent game and MGS Rising will be a nice action game from the Konami/Kojima family so with that we got maybe again 2.5 million...
plus the fact its multi...i see this game selling great in americas...of course not as good like on the PS but i can Rising see selling 500.000 there on the Xbox...maybe 300k from Europe and with a little bit of luck maybe even become a million seller...so i think Rising got a good chance of selling 5 million...
First off, as American gamer & a 360 owner, I WILL be picking up Rising. I have been a fan of MGS since MGS1 on the original Playstation. I have played MGS, MGS VR Missions, MGS2: Sons Of Liberty, MGS2: Substance, MGS3: Snaked Eater & MGS3: Subsistance. I have not yet played MGS4: Guns Of The Patriots & MGS: Peace Walker because I don't have a PS3 or PSP. Regardless, I am still a fan of the series. I think that this will most definiately sell more than MGS4 being that it's on PS3, 360 & PC. Although I perfer Snake a main character, Raiden is still one of my top 10 favorites.
For those of you who really don't keep up with gaming, Hideo Kojima will serve as Executive Producer for Rising & will be more hands on with the project than a normal Executive Producer would be. (Think how J.J. Abrams was with Cloverfeild) Also, despite there being stories on Rising having it's own developement team, The staff who worked on MGS4 & Peace Walker have joined the Rising team & are currently working on the title together. This is a spinoff but it has it's place in the MGS Cannon. Rising takes place between MGS2 & MGS4 & it shows how Raiden recovered Big Boss' remains & how became a cyborg ninja in the first place.
This will be in fact a stealth game. Although it will be a different kind of stealth. Before in MGS4, you were trying to avoid enemies so you can get passed a level undetected. But this time in Rising, You will be the hunter & you will be looking to take out enemies while staying undetected (Similar to Splinter Cell: Conviction but more hyper active). For those of you saying that they will not buy this game because it's on the 360 or it's too different from the rest of the MGS games, are not true MGS fans. If you were a true MGS fan, you wouldn't care if it's on 360 or PC, you would buy it just because you like it. You wouldn't care if it was a different pacing than past MGS titles, you would welcome the change. I am a true MGS fan.
I don't know how much it will sell, but I can tell you it won't be better than 4. No way.

MGS 4 without Kojima is like a body without a heart. A rose by any other name wouldn't smell so sweet. Even if it is being supervised by the gods, its already lost one point. Its not stealth :( There are very few stealth games, conviction gone, rising gone, what has become of this industry? Not fair. |
I think i read somewhere that you can go through the whole game without killing anyone, so i think it will still have the element of stealth at a secondary component
i think that Kojima Productions had very little to do with Castlevania, and that was phenominal so i'm not bothered about Kojima's input.
and imo MGS Rising does look like a lot of fun, if the speed of the action is inbetween God of War 3 and Bayonetta i think it will turn out very well. and sales will probabily range from 3 to 5 mil.

I will wait and see. As far as I know they changed the title from tactical stealth espionage to Lightining Bolt Action which doesn't seem much stealthy to me. If its much more of an effort to use stealth than to not use, than it would be a waste.
But if its stealthy, than I will get it.
I have a feeling it won't. And i hope it doesn't. It will teach more companies not to go multiplat.
