A killer app by definition is a peice of software that raises hardware sales substantailly. Anything that does not do that cannot be called a killer app.

But Shenmue and Shenmue II were Killer APP's and didn't do much for SEGA Dreamcast Sales I believe.

Some people refer to the best games on a sytem as killer apps.  However, many on this site, as it is a sales site, refer to a killer app as something that is extremely popular and sells the system and itself - alot.

By his definition, Shenmue proabably wasn't a killer app.

A killer application (commonly shortened to killer app), in the jargon of technologists, has been used to refer to any computer program that is so necessary or desirable that it proves the core value of some larger technology, such as computer hardware, gaming console, software, or an operating system. A killer app can substantially increase sales of the platform on which it runs. (Wikipedia)

All up to interpretation.

Look at the post right above yours.  That's the definition from Wikipedia, and supports your claim.

But that still doesn't mean that it can't be both a popular big budget IP or any one that gets crazy popular and sells the system.

It says that it *can* sells systems, implying it doesn't *have* to.  It just has to be "necessary and desirable", which Shenmue definitely is. lol   So any really great game would apply.

Don't say that, Sony might read it lol I want the NGP so bad, but I can't afford it for that price (It would come way above R$1500,00 here).

OT: Altough they are part of Sony, their opinion actually is in sync with external devs and that's great to hear.
