Fuck yea! Everyone who loves RPG should go back and play Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate 2. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Fallout 3 none of these games come close to the old Black Isle classics.

My main problem with this gen is that gems are few and far between. Also, most of the really popular games aren't worth playing beyond a first playthrough. Yes, 20 to 40 hours is nice for a first playthrough but what happened to games that I'd like to play at my fancy from time to time. Most classic games aren't good because they are simple to play but they were made to played and several of the more successful ones had alot of content that felt fresh, allowed for different play styles and didn't feel like work to play again. If it takes 20 hours to get to the good part, why is that 20 hours important? If a campaign is 5 hours, why should I play it again? Especially if my hand is being held through.
Seriously, quite a bit of bs in this gen is pretty facepalm worthy in the grand scheme of things.
Pixel Art can be fun.
"Yes the graphics of GTA 4 engine is probably the best you can get out of a video game easily. Great physics engine, Excellent lighting engine, well synched cut scenes, incredible car destruction."

Basic elements in games such as story and gameplay dont change. Mario still jumps, link still solves puzzles, gta is still an open sand box and FF still tells a story about saving the world. If you look at it that way, games are still just games, even though they seem to be a bit more like movies nowadays. This enables classic's to still be relevant and interesting 5, 10 or 20 years down the line, becuase they're gameplay and stories are superb and not so different to what we have nowadays if you think about it.
Some gamers have trouble appreciating these games due to the graphical gap, but I still think DKC and FFIV and Chrono Trigger still look gorgeous to this day.
you should have called it a rant about how you dont like trends in modern gaming.
anyways on topic ...... so your gonna play old games today and modern games in the future?
sorry but isnt that a bit dumb?
EDIT: oh and like many the same mistake you make in thinking people assume GTA4 is better is because of the graphics.
graphics is the assumption haters make of thinking modern games are better.
the truth is modern games have better stories, cinematics matter to people, gameplay engines matter.....people dont want to hold down the right button and keep tapping jump.....thats considered as boring.
oh and san andreas was a fail......you had to eat and go to the gym hahahaha how sad. vice city was the best GTA imo but only becuase GTA4 had a crap frame rate.
The logic that a newer game is instantly better than an older game just does not compute with me, but each to their own.
I play older games for the same reason that I watch older movies, listen to older music or read older books. I mean, the original Star Wars trilogy is a clear winner over the prequel trilogy by a chasm... Yet if you follow the newer = instantly better logic.... Yikes.
