Forums - Sony - Why You Shouldn't Buy DC Universe Online Used

What crap is this?  You don't get the free month code that is all, can still use the disc and just pay for the first month.  Already know someone who bought a second hand disc, no issues.

They just want us to think we can't sell it used so more people have to go buy it new.

That seems so pointless, considering anybody who wants to play the game, whether buying it used or new, will be paying them via the subscription.

People should know that that is the basic case with all MMOs. It's not like other console games, but I do believe in that they should have put a note on the back or something.

not always true, lots of MMO's these days will give you the game for free even as long as you sign up for an account.

best example would be WoW.  sure you need to buy expansion, but initial game is free and you just need to download.  you get 10 days free or whatever and then its all subscription.

That is wrong, sure you can download a trial version of wow, but you need to buy the game to upgrade your account from 'trial' to 'vanilla' before you access to all the original games content. The only mmo's that give away the base game for free are ones with a free to play model or require you to buy the latest expansion for the "free" base game...

Well that's a rule when buying an mmo.

Hmm, are you sure this is false Kylie?

I've seen the story spread across several sites now and I haven't seen any disputes in the comments.  It's even on Gamasutra with a quote from SOE.  If this were false, I don't think they would issue a statement that would be confused with the free month key.

Yeah.

This is a fact that many people knew long ago.

That's why many second hand console game shops in my country don't except MMORPG titles at all for trade-in/buy/sell.

I love how everyone acts as though this is common knowledge when it isn't at all.

1. FFXI for PS2/360 is not locked to a disc, you can rent and buy it used just fine.

2. You're assuming this is common knowledge because MMO's are generally on PC and it's PC games that don't get traded in, not MMO's.

Just to correct this, he said he had to phone customer services to sort the issue but at no additional charge to regular subscription fees.  He didn't mention any of this before.

That's better than you just can't play but, man, that just kind of sucks that you have to jump through that hoop to play a good game.
