I'm not going to leave the entire quote in there because it is a long read, but I agree with Nazatips, nice write up.

Those numbers come straight from the latest census. In average home owner owns a little under 50% equity in their house so they obviously are still paying mortgages. However you do not need to have 100% equity in your house to be considered a home owner...( otherwise I probably would be one of the few real home owner in my neighborhood lol). |
Ok, I just wanted to make sure what the numbers meant...technically the bank owns the house...and by the way, good for you, I really appreciate people who can take mortgages seriously and pay the damned things off quickly.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
Basic rule of life is: If people who do things that other benefit from, don't eventually get compensated for doing it, they will stop doing it. I have not pity, no anger or finger wagging at the electronic games industry if they decide they don't want to do PC gaming because of piracy. They have every right NOT to produce content, if they have a more viable platform, that is easier to code for.
I also, however, I have no pity for an industry either that would, if it had its druthers, NOT produce demos, not allow rentals, nor allow people to trade in a license they have they no longer want.

67% of americans own their house. 6% own a second house. That's not middle class, sorry...... |
Of that 6% only a small share are luxury ones, and not the whole middle classes choose to buy a second house and, last, with the average American income, many more people could afford a second house if consumerism weren't excessive and left some more money in their pockets. Anyhow, how many people go on holiday renting houses? More than second house owners, and if they don't rent luxury houses, a fast internet connection won't be included most probably. The same applies for people going on holiday in cheap hotels, or in exotic but still low cost places, or in isolated places, outside of big and mid sized towns, the places where telcos don't bring high speed connections are still in very large number, and, as I wrote, unless telcos don't change their attitude, using cellphones for data connection for a long time like game sessions is totally unaffordable for most families. Also, if so many families still have to pay their mortgages, there are even more excellent reasons to avoid any avoidable extra expenditure, and having to pay for a second connection to play single player when you're away from your main home is definitely an avoidable and totally unuseful expenditure, IMVHO. Finally, some SW houses can try what you suggest, but any unuseful (for the buyer) complication and extra cost will make them lose market shares in favour of SW houses not imposing them.

Piracy wont be an option if these things weren't just sitting there. The torrent sites are obvious to everyone yet they're tsill there untouched, unpeturbed and unruffled. Who is to blame? Nowadays, you can get songs directly off legit sites like youtube using legitimate freeware and other legitimate sites...is that piracy too? The problem with the whole "piracy" debate is that unlike actual theft, it's nothing but blurred lines. When a game is leaked way before the release, I get the feeling that an actual employee is responsible. How this ends up blamed on the end user is beyond me. |
I was thinking the same thing...

So do you guys think there will be follow up on this article or will Jim Sterling prove he is just another double standards gaming "journalist" ?
