I think reading some of the comments here it is almost like the console wars extend to anything Microsoft do. I would suggest before you slag off the WM7 you actually try and spend some time with it. I have found it to be very competent, some niggles for example the lack of a weekly calendar view and no out of office support but these points aside it is now my OS of choice even over Android. The first update is expected this month with some performance improvements and the obligatory Cut and Paste add on.

They really need to work on their business side of WM7. Its mindboggling that they have the user experience, and entertainment side down...but they kind of dropped the ball on the business side with the things you mentioned it lacks. It also doesn't have Microsoft Exchange integration yet...thats rediculous. Windows Mobile 1.0 had this...

Actually it does have EAS built in and for Email the phones are excellent, things like getting to a persons details from email are extremely easy. They have missed some aspects like the out of office but then we get Office 2010 and Sharepoint. Overall though I am happy to switch to this phone for my daily business use but hope they add the OOA in particular.

Nokia's about to get a whole lot better.

This is a good idea for the both of them. Nokia (NOK) 9.36 -1.53 stock is going down and may go down further for dropping there os they where developing.  I believe Nokia will be back after reworking themselves. Any news like this people will profit take and sell the stock. This deal will get Windows os on more phones while alowing Nokia do what they do best and make phones. I'm not surprised for the hate of MS on this website, it's to be expected.

This thread is hilarious.  Some people are SO emotionally invested in hating a specific company they can't objectively look at anything that company does without some Pavlovian reaction to just dump on any news from them.

"Hey, did you hear? Microsoft just cured cancer."

"What?!?  What are all the cancer treatment centers going to do now?  Won't they all go out of business?  Microsoft sucks!!"

This goes beyond video games people.

To all those saying: "Nokia is big, it's got a 40 billion dollars market cap".

Yesterday Nokia was a 40 billion $ company, today it's a 35 billion one. ;)

-14% in a day and it's getting worse (it was -12% at 12:00 CET).

yeah.. its tiny now.

sheesh.

You can have even 100 billion $, but if you need 99 billion $ in cash to keep your business running, you couldn't afford even a 2% loss. Enron, WorldCom, Lehman Brothers, Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, all of them had billions of $ on the market, but crashed in a few days; Nokia is a manufacturer company, so it has some advantages and its assets cannot devalue so quickly, but it's not market-proof.

This thread is hilarious. Some people are SO emotionally invested in supporting a specific company they can't help but take umbridge to people who don't feel that way and have there own Pavlovian reaction to defend any news from them and paint nay sayers as being anti microsoft, both types are two sides of the same coin the wreckers and defenders with every one else in the middle.

PS, i think it is a smart move by MS and they are now well positioned.
