Forums - Gaming - Duke Nukem Forever rate MA15+ in Australia...what!?

For a Duke Nukem game and of all places you'd think this would be banned, but only for 15 years and older in Australia? Not liking that rating...Source

A quick perusal of the Classification Board earlier today revealed a classification for the mysterious title 000A, submitted by Take 2. Nice try, guys, but we see straight through your cunning plan.

This game contains “Strong violence, sexual references, crude humour and drug references”, which sounds pretty much exactly like we’d expect from the Duke.

Curious, we checked in with the Classification Board, and here’s what they told us about 000A:

“In this latest action-adventure 1st person shooter game from the Duke Nukem series, the player assumes the role of the iconic, hyperbolic action hero, who must navigate through over 24 levels of futuristic scenarios, killing opponents with a vast array of weapons. The primary objective is to overcome an alien race that has launched an invasion on Earth and commenced a hybridisation program using kidnapped Earth women.”

Ah ha allow me to explain.

Australia has no fuckin R18 or M17 rating. So that means whatever is M17 in the States, it's always most likely gonna be MA15 in Australia because that's the highest rating for games.

So be it God of War, Gears of War, Killzone, Dragon Age, etc which they're M17 in the States, they are all MA15 in Aus.

So this isn't big news

Not exactly.

First of all, Australia bans a lot of games (that then have censored versions released with less gore or other alterations). It does mean a fair bit to know that it is rated MA in Aus as opposed to being refused classification.

Secondly, there is only a vague correlation between the ratings across countries, it is not fair to say "whatever is M17 in the States, it's always most likely gonna be MA15 in Australia" American ratings pretty much ignore violence, but crack down very strongly on Coarse language and sex. European (particularly outside of the UK) consider violence to be deserving of a higher rating and dont care about sex, nudity or bad language. Australia is mid way between the two.

so no banning.

now reverse Left for dead 2

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

We'll probably get a highly censored version, just like Duke Nukem 3D....

As long as there's a way to unlock it, I'm happy.

The game is not censored unless it was edited before it was submitted the first time as there is only one submission on the website and on the version it say original. if you look up left 4 dead 2 for example the original version was banned and modified was passed as MA
