@twestern  had a Gameboy Color and advanced. What games did the gameboy had that was not available in some form on the NES console???? Outside of Pokemon I cant think of any and at the end of the day Pokemon is just another RPG, the most popular GB games were Console offshoots anyway. Mario, Tetris, DK,etc

What?  You'ev got to be kidding me.

I don't know the games off the top of my head, but 1) there was a vast library of Game Boy games and many of those didn't appear on the NES, and 2) a game may have appeared on the NEs and Game Boy, doesn't mean they were same game.

@twestern  if there were so many how come you cant even name one??? Even if there were some games on GameBoy that didnt appear on NES doesnt mean that it was dramatically different than any game found on NES. Super Mario Land, DK Land, Gargoyles Quest. All games that were GameBoy only but it wasnt like they were "unique" from the NES games. There all just platformers and it wasnt like there wasnt an abundance of those on NES.

Advance Wars.

That wasn't one game, but an entire series that compelled me to buy a GBA (two, in case I lost or broke one) and then a DSl for Dual Strike and Days of Ruin.

None of those were on any console.

Also Brain Age. It was conceived as a DS game series that sold a ton of handhelds to the extended audience.

On a related note, Konami released a half dozen MGS games that weren't playable on anything but the PSP.

If you were a fan of the franchise, you had to buy a PSP to play.

@greenmedic  thats kind of what i was getting at, yes Advance Wars is a portable only franchise but it wasnt like there were no game like it on consoles. I love that game but it was just a simplied RTS. There are a few of those on consoles and even more on PC. Now Brain Age is a game more unique on portables, but we didnt see those kind of games till DS and that is really recent.

I agree with the MGS statement. Some people have a stigma of portables for some reason, even though you can buy a core(cheap too) that will plug right into your damn TV so you can play on the big screen. I think some people are just cheap

Edit: Nevermind.

I feel the same way.  I partially blame Japan because they refuse to buy consoles in the numbers that they used to and buy more handhelds for Monster Hunter and such.  I also blame laziness on Nintendo and Sony's part because they don't seem to want to make handheld games at all and they rather port what has worked on consoles on these portable devices.  The difference is that handheld gaming and console gaming are 2 complete different beasts.  Handheld gaming is playing games on a tiny screen with audio limited to what the handheld's speakers or your headphones can produce and your non-static environment.  You can't expect home console games to translate given these limitation, it doesn't make sense given that the bulk of us should already have home consoles.

That's why games like Nintendogs, Pokémon, Brain Age and App store games sell so well.  Essentially, these games let the player set the pace of play and that's an incredible asset when your consumer base is playing these games on road trips, plane trips, and commutes.  Imagine having to play a game with a full tutorial, cutscenes of varied length, all the fluff you can expect from home consoles and you're pretty much at the will of how long your ride will be, where you're playing your handheld and who's around you.

I'm sorry if they was rather sloppy but I don't want to play home console games when I'm not home.  I rather use my home console for that.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Short answer:

Then don't buy a portable console (or new handheld)

Long answer:

Then don't buy a portable console (or new handheld)

Lies. Those are exact same length.

I just don't see the appeal of purchasing one straight away, I'd rather purchase it later on in it's life cycle when there are more games available and both the handheld and the games are considerably cheaper. Although I don't even have PSP or DS yet, just never was interested personally, bought an Android phone instead and have my fun with the little apps :p

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

like someone say,

if you don't want, don't buy !

why do you complain ?!!!
