Forums - Sales - PS3 reaches 1.1M units Down Under.

Wtf happened to GFK's monthly numbers for Australia?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

ok i get it

but MS declined in 2009 numbers,so it's donsen't mean PS3 is ahead now(of coz i don't know)

btw 1.3m?i don't think NZ is that big...

Well it's probably slightly less than 1.3 million if the above number is accurate. I was using that as a ballpark figure. PS3 increased it's install base in Australia by close to 40% in 2010. If it were a similar percantage for NZ it would be around 170k in that territory. Actually looking at the numbers again 360 is probably still ahead. PS3 would have needed to stomp it last year to catch up.

NZ PS3 sales will be around 150K by now, so "over 1.1 million" in Aussie plus ~150K NZ = ~1.3 million or at least > 1.25 million. In any case, given Sony and Gfk are saying over 1.1 million in households in Aussie and VGC has Aussie NZ at 1.12 million then a modest adjustment to VGC numbers would be expected. I think given the uncertainties of the numbers I'd say putting PS3 at about 1.25 million on the Aus/NZ chart would be about right. So, level pegging with the 360. Though I think if anything 360 is slightly undertracked too and is probably still marginally ahead in this neck of the woods.

Hmm, this gives me an idea for a thread...

Hardware (console) sales also declined by 27 percent, with 1.6 million units sold in 2010 compared to 2.2 million units sold in 2009.

PS3 2010 GFK = 26.5% x 1.6m = 424k

PS3 2010 VGC = 320k (Australia and New Zealand)

Lastest PS3 New Zealand data (end of 2009): 117k

So at least 550k has sold in Australia and New Zealand in 2010.

VGC was 230k off.

Except, VGchartz doesn't count the free PS3's givin away.

180k lifetime... in 2010 only the number will be lower.

And why doesn't count the PS3 with Bravia deal??? That is "sales" and it is part of userbase.

I must admit I am surprised. From the posts of some members I was led to believe that Australia was totally x360 land, like it had sold twice as much as the PS3.

What is the gap between launches? Is the x360 a year or a year and a half ahead there?

Either way PS3 made up some serious ground considering the price.

It's counted. It has to be. About 15% of official PS3 numbers come from the Bravia deal, yet the official and VGC numbers seem to match up. If they aren't counted here at all, wouldnt that mean the PS3 is actually overtracked here?

Xbox 360: March 23, 2006
PlayStation 3: March 23, 2007

360 had one year ahead... and Australia never was a 360 land... there are just two 360 lands: US and UK.

Why overtracked? 320k plus 130k = 450k.

Like I said GFK had PS3 over 450k for Australia and New Zealand in 2010 (I made a mistake before).

So if not counted seems ok.
