Well it's probably slightly less than 1.3 million if the above number is accurate. I was using that as a ballpark figure. PS3 increased it's install base in Australia by close to 40% in 2010. If it were a similar percantage for NZ it would be around 170k in that territory. Actually looking at the numbers again 360 is probably still ahead. PS3 would have needed to stomp it last year to catch up.

great news and numbers

well besides US and UK its only ausie and marginaly  scandinavia that PS3 is trailing the 360 which is pretty impressive when you factor in the almost 17 months delayed PS3 launch (in  EU and ausie) and the enormously high PS3 price at launch, i remember the price was ridiculously high in those regions

as others have pointed out it should easily pass the 360 and then some in the remaining two areas outside of NA and UK

That's less than I would have thought. Isn't Australia basically the same population as Canada, but a lot more PS3's have been sold in Canada I think.

So between Australia and NZ PS3 is probably around 1.3 million now. Although keep in mind vgc doesn't track the PS3s given away free with Bravias, I'm not sure exactly how many that is though. The fact that MS declined to comment about total sales despite the fact that they've been happy to do so in the past probably means that gfk has PS3 ahead now.

Australia at least seems to have tipped in the way of 360. At least from my area. (melbourne, second largest city in australia)

Hardware (console) sales also declined by 27 percent, with 1.6 million units sold in 2010 compared to 2.2 million units sold in 2009.

PS3 2010 GFK = 26.5% x 1.6m = 424k

PS3 2010 VGC = 320k (Australia and New Zealand)

Lastest PS3 New Zealand data (end of 2009): 117k

So at least 450k 550k has sold in Australia and New Zealand in 2010.

VGC was 130k 230k off.
