How Sony Can Make Their Next Gen Portable A Must Buy?

It's simple: New IPs that can sell more the than 20 million with one single game. I mean Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, Metal Gear and even Gran Turismo (combined!?) aren't capable to move as much hardware as a simple 2D Mario (you just have to look at the PSP and DS software sales to see it). So instead of PS3-like games the NGP will need some DS/Wii-like games in order to become a must buy for a wide audience.

Did you even read the article?

The NGP is tapping into a market far larger than even a Nintendo game can dream.  Iphone type games, and this may be one of the single biggest reasons that Nintendo should be very worried about the NGP in my opinion.

DSiWare has many iPhone type games dude. And thats DSi download service. I understand some people are really excited for a touch screen on NGP, its a novelty for them if you they had just a PSP, but don't you forget that DS had one back in 2004, and so 3DS will have a touch screen. Any "iphone type" game is possible on the DS and 3DS. And of course the NGP.

The only market Sony is catering that Nintendo won't be able to compete is the high end gamer, graphics whore, but that strategy wasn't much usefull for the PSP as it got smashed by DS.

Seriously, stop reminding people that the PSP got owned by the DS. We have all seen it happen and do not need to be reminded of it.

Blank post is blank ----------------carry on

Something tells me there is some sort of a word document being sent off to people around this forum with a set of responses to be used in all NGP threads cuz I swear I see a post like this every darn thread -_- ...btw radiant I'm telling you here not referring to you :P

anywho great great read :) thanks for posting

Funny how I can say the same thing about certain Sony guys that love downplaying other consoles because of power... Same argument all the time. Guess you just have to deal with it eh?

I think Sony should sell the NGP at $250-$299 price range. It will sell tons. Maybe $350 for 3G.

Nothing can compete with a stoned italian plumber.

I remember working at a Best Buy store in 2005 around when the first PSP launched. I took our demo model around the store on a few occasions and showed it to people. Even though myself and others were impressed with it as a device, very few people seemed willing to fork out the money for a limited range of launch titles and overpriced, proprietary movies.

Once again I am impressed with it as a device, but I wonder if Sony isn't repeating some of the same mistakes they made with the PSP and PS3. Great hardware doesn't mean shit unless it has mass appeal. Having handheld versions of console games aren't inherently bad, but in pushing these games (killzone, uncharted, hot shots golf, etc) they are selling to the people who are already fans.

Still, predicting how hardware will perform pre-launch is incredibly hard, as evidenced by the current console generation. We are simply speculating on past events. Still, given the rise of Apple and others in the handheld space, this is not a two horse race. Sony will have to contend with much fiercer competition than they did in 2005.

I don't understand how developers are supposed to create console like games for $10 when console developers are barely scraping by selling games for $60. You can't have it both ways. If you want console like games, then they are going to cost console prices. If you want $10 games, then they are going to be like the iPhone games.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

NGP is not revolutionary  what it will do is already on the market

Pretty graphics are just an upgrade

there is ONE HUGE flaw in that thinking.  Phone games are good and all, but why would someone carry around a NGP to play phone games when they are ALREADY carrying around a PHONE that can play phone games?

I would agree with you IF the NGP was a phone as well.
