Forums - Gaming - Rumor: Eurogamer source says NGP battery 4-5 hours, will be sold at a loss

I think they will have to sell at a loss, because otherwise the device will be more expensive that people will be willing to pay for it. With that said I don't expect them to sell it with a big loss, So my estimate for the price is around 300-350 dollars, with Sony lossing something between 30-50 dollars on each console.

About the battery life, it seems fine, I am a little more worried about the size of the device is not pocket friendly.

Just buy pants with bigger pockets. Problem solved. ;P

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

I like the 6-8 hour battery life.
If it's sold at a loss... that can only mean it'll be a good price. Maybe the PS3 turned out better then everyone thought as an investment?

This will last longer than my laptop, that is good enough for me.  I want a device that can EASILY play a full length film, which this will be able to do.  That right there = find with me.

Would I like the battery life longer? Who wouldnt?

Well i'm not going to lie. I'm not particularly happy with the battery life and I meantioned that strongly in the 3DS thread which if I remember correctly has a 3 - 5 hour battery life. However considering the power of the PSP2 I will not chew them out as much.

So wait let me get this straight? 3DS which has 3D in it, which uses more power than most devices (for example if you turn off 3D you give the device about 8 hours), you chewed them out, but this you are going to let it slide?

(This applies to every one who did it, and thinks this is alright, besides Hunter_alien, since he was one of the only people who actually accepted it both times)

It doesn't mean that i'm happy over it. What I meant by more powerful is graphics wise and such. Neither are getting first day buys for me. They both can wait a year. BTW I could give a rats ass about the stupid 3D in the 3DS. It's just a DS on steroids to me.

Sonys videogame hardware business model is quite outdated at this point...but I really don't care. Don't own any sony stock...

So yes, please do sell for loss. Everyone loves a deal...

A parallax barrier is a device placed in front of an image source, such as a liquid crystal display, to allow it to show a stereoscopic image without the need for the viewer to wear 3D glasses. Placed in front of the normal LCD, it consists of a layer of material with a series of precision slits, allowing each eye to see a different set of pixels, so creating a sense of depth through parallax in an effect similar to what lenticular printing produces for printed products.[1][2] A disadvantage of the technology is that the viewer must be positioned in a well defined spot to experience the 3D effect.[3]

It shouldn't be that power consuming. And yes, with the psp2's specs, a battery life of 4-5 hors would be pretty damn surprising. (in a good way) Especially when looking at the battery life of the first psp.

Check out my game about moles ^

If that's true, i'm very surprised that the Sony leadership is letting SCE get away with that, given how quickly PS3 killed all profit from the entire PS2 era, you'd think Stringer & co. would be more focused on the bottom line now than marketshare gain, especially since their early PS3 strategy of loss-leading got them nowhere, and it was only when they began to focus on economy and software that PS3 started becoming a contender

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I am surprised as well. Mind you the device price hasn't been announced and Sony may have another revenue stream coming in somwhere for the NGP(3G based in game advertising?) but I am pretty confused how they are planning to pull this off and not piss off their investors.

In any case, I am feeling good about todays events. the way I see it, Nintendo remains at the top of the portable market and can do what nintendo does... and Sony is delivering a kickass spec'd portable that will probably be hacked to run Dreamcast games. Life is good :)

Wait. When was the last time Sony did not sell a console at loss at launch?
