'Will NGP suffer the same fate as the PSP?'
- No. It will suffer a different fate.

Regardless of how you spin it, or how the situation might change in the future is's already drastically different from what it was in 2004. At the beginning DS got nothing, zero, nihil, dipshit compared to PSP. |
Ah, you are comparing 3ds with ds, right? I missunderstood you.
IMO, NGP is going to face a worst fate than the PSP....but i don't care. the device is so awesome that i'm not even a little hyped for 3DS anymore.
3DS is looking to be a DS with PSP games and graphics and a 3D screen. The price looks right(could be for $200, but from nintendo perspective, $250 or even $300 fits better)
NGP is looking to be a mix of smartphone with ps3. Price is gonna be huge, and/or sony will lost much money.
3DS have all the advantages of DS and PSP(3rd parties) together.

The same holds true if your wife's watching figure skating and you want to do an enduro on GT5 could be awesome if the games themselves are not heavily modified, just scale down the graphics, remap controls etc. it will need a shed load of casual-friendly and gimmick games to really thrive though imo |
You're suggesting that people buy the same game twice, 1 for PS3 and 1 for PSP2?
here's something I posted on another forum. I know it's long, but just bear with me:
Here are the problems I had with the conference
1. A lack of titles: The press conference barely had any games for it. We had Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, and Resistance, but NONE of these were confirmed to be original or just ports from the PS3. What third parties showed up merely showed tech demos that demonstrated how one could port PS3 games to the NGP. Not exactly something to get excited about.
2. The tech involved: I won't deny that the thing is an impressive piece of hardware, but there's something that Sony seems to have missed: this is the exact same situation the PSP had with the DS. Undeniably the PSP is by far more powerful than the DS, but Nintendo STILL beat Sony into the ground with their plucky, quirky, underpowered device. Furthermore I don't see what the NGP has besides graphical power that the 3DS DOESN'T except from a second analog stick. Also, the bells and whistles make me worry about:
3. The price: NO PRICE WAS ANNOUNCED. I'll admit that they'll probably wait until E3 to announce that, but it still makes me worry. The 3DS is priced at $250 with far inferior graphics than the NGP and that's BEFORE you get into the NGP's touch sensitive OLED screen, touchpad, and 3G connectivity. There is NO WAY this thing is going to match the 3DS' price, it'll be lucky to only be $300 at launch. The PSP launched at $250 which was a more than hundred dollars over the DS at the time.
I can't see how the NGP is going to compete with the 3DS. And that's before I get into it not being backwards compatible with UMD games. It looks to me like Sony just didn't get why Nintendo beat them in their last tussle with handhelds.

Not necessarily. With an unlock code, people could download a smaller PSP2 version from PSN. It could even be on the PS3 disc itself.
Honestly Im not gonna pay 399$ for to play the same games but ported in a handheld

yup - something like that would be great imo - at the very least a massive discount code for the PSP2 version

So, you're saying, they make the same playable on both platform, for the price of 1?
Wishful thinking there.
S-E tried cross platform game with FFCC on Wii/DS. It bombed so hard, LOL.

They'll unlock the version on the disc for a certain amount of money.
That wouldn't be far fetched, would it?
S-E hasn't done anything right for years, so yeah.
I think many people will buy it to emulate Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube and boot a shitload of awesome homebrew apps.
