Forums - Microsoft - Hybrid plans "persistent online World War"

Eurogamer

Hybrid, the forthcoming online FPS from the studio behind DS hit Scribblenauts, will feature a "persistent online World War" which will continue to rage even while you're not playing.

The announcements comes in a new info dump from developer 5th Cell about the Xbox Live Arcade shooter, first revealed late last year.

The game follows a global conflict between a race called the Variant that have been "genetically altered" following an asteroid strike, and the planet's immune populace, known as the Paladin.

You'll have to choose a hero from one of the two factions and then go at it online, helping your faction capture territories and strive for total global domination.

5th Cell is promising a single unified world server to help achieve its vision.

The developer also teased an "innovative new system unique to the shooter genre" called Combat Focused Movement, which it plans to properly unveil at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month.

Around the Network

Reminds me of the old Halo 2 custom matches where there could be hundreds of kills and players joining and leaving with game time going on for hours.

But longer...obviously.

i imagined that stuff would be great in fps hope it works out with 5th cell i think i might buy this arcade title

Dust 514 will have a formidable competitor coming up..

planetside?

wasn't there a soe MMOFPS by that name? never played it but a friend of mine did and he said it was awsome.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Sounds pretty sweet. Is every other person you meet an NPC or will you be fighting with/against other players?

Sounds akin to the Tom Clancy's EndWar, where people can have battles over the 24 hour period, and after that period depending on who wins the war in each battle, will decide who gets the city. Quite a good concept, just there weren't that many people playing :(

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Sounds fukn bad ass.  if only Halo or the Call of Duty franchise would have included this

Imagine the epic battles of millions vs millions of people, its too bad the game is a new ip O_O

Doesn't MAG already feature a persistent online battle?
