PS3 and Wii battle for Japan 2011 edition

Wii will outsell PS3 by big margin 98 10.35%

Wii will slightly outsell PS3 99 10.45%

PS3 and Wii will be statistically tied 44 4.65%

PS3 will slightly outsell Wii 292 30.83%

PS3 will outsell PS3 by big margin 341 36.01%

who cares ? 70 7.39%

Total:944

As I mentioned earlier in the thread if PS3 manages to build up a lead of 400k-500k it wouldn't matter if Wii outsold it during the holidays. The gap would simply be too big for the Wii to overcome, even with DQX. According to MC the gap is now at 129k and with the way things are looking now it would only take till about July for PS3 to gain a 400k lead. Assuming the innevitable price cuts have more of an impact on PS3 than Wii (quite likely) than we could be looking at a gap of over 800k by the end of November.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Price cut won't be enough for the Wii to take the lead this year. it needs games...

PS3 will be the best selling game console in 2011, 3DS won't be even touching PS3 with the anticipated PS3 pricecut later this year

*laughs maniacally*

I love to see hope.

3DS is already freaking ahead of the PS3 in one freaking day versus two freaking months. The PS3 will be millions behind the 3DS.

Yeah, it's almost laughable.  Lets pull a tres and compare some "big" future titles (but let's be reasonable and say 500k or more sellers :P)...

PlayStation 3

  • Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Square Enix)
  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII (Square Enix)
  • Metal Gear Solid Rising (Konami)
  • Ninokuni: The Queen of White Sacred Ash (Level 5) *maybe
  • Tales of Xillia (Namco) *maybe
  • Yakuza: Of the End (Sega)

Nintendo 3DS

  • Animal Crossing (Nintendo)
  • Dragon Quest (Square Enix) *maybe, depending on what it is
  • Fantasy Life (Level 5) *maybe
  • Final Fantasy (Square Enix) *maybe, depending on what it is
  • Inazuma Eleven Go (Level 5)
  • Kid Icarus: Uprising (Nintendo) *maybe
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (Square Enix)
  • Mario Kart (Nintendo)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D (Konami)
  • Paper Mario (Nintendo)
  • Pilotwings Resort (Nintendo) *maybe
  • Pokemon (Pokemon Co.) *maybe, depending on what it is
  • Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright (Level 5)
  • Resident Evil: Revelations (Capcom) *maybe
  • Super Mario (Nintendo)
  • Super Robot Taisen 3D (Bandai) *maybe, depending on what it is
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo) *maybe
  • Time Travelers (Level 5) *maybe

From the sound of best seeling console of 2011 being PS3 you can be wrong in 2 points in shunning him...

3DS isn't a console for some but a handheld and he can be talking about WW... so in both cases he could be right

1) This thread is about Japan, not worldwide.

2) Handhelds have effectively replaced home consoles in Japan.  The successor to PS2 was DS, and next cycle it's going to be 3DS (or NGP).

1) The thread is, but have you asked the person about what he were talking before dimissing his opinion? Assumption is the mother of misunderstanding.

2) Handhelds are selling more than consoles in Japan in this generation, this don't make his point irrelevant as they are still called different and one didn't make the other disapear...

So please at least try to respect others opinion.

@Gustave: He is talking about a PS3 price cut that could speed sales.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I sneak edited this week numbers:)

Also as a funny sidenote - just two more weeks and X360 will reach 35k consols sold this year in Japan.

But Wii software totals are actually quite strong mostly thanks to evergreens doing their job:

Japan Software Totals

Ouch.

PS3 definitely winning all the way untill holiday season i guess...

Wii pricecut will mean it'll outsell the PS3.

Not by a significant amount, but it won't exactly be close either.
