Pandora's tower seems promising.

I'm going to be very optimistic and say Wii will win slightly, the answer could be more clear depending what happens in e3.

Depends if Zelda comes out this year as planned.

I don't think it's an if anymore, it's a when.

Can they do it before FF13-2 is out, and reap the most sales? If not, I don't think they can pull it off.

As others have said, the key game is DQX, and maybe TLS for Q1. If they come out/do well, then they'll win

I really am not so certain FF13-2 will be so amazing, lots of disappointed FF fans with 13. I remain guarded there. Of course, the last FF game *I* enjoyed was 6 lol

True. I was one of those many who were disappointed by FF13, but it doesn't mean it won't sell well, which I believe was the point of the article

Im just sayin, I think a new Zelda game would outdo  FF13-2, as you had asked about if Zelda can outperform FF13-2 =)

Perhaps. But Zelda has been a hard sell in Japan, and we know so little about it...

Considering the massive fanbase for Zelda games in Japan, the above statement seems hard to believe.

It is clear that this is a little skirmish for PS3.

Well yes but it needs to accumulate at least 200k lead to go into Holiday season with hope of victory.

Wii's situation and lineup looks dire for the first half of the year. There's pretty much nothing else coming out and if The Last Story plus the bundle weren't able to put the Wii over the PS3 then nothing will. Besides PS3 is getting a bunch of big games soon. PS3 has this year in the bag.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Unlike last holiday season, this year PS3 will have a really big game Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Gran Turismo is no longer a big title in Japan). PS3 only lost by less than 100k units.

I dunno man, I'd but Zelda a bit higher on the list (read WAY higher) than Last Story. Its a new IP that only hardcore FF fans know who's behind it. There's still a few surprised yet to be brought forward by Nintendo.

Ultimately, I think Japan outright is at a loss for all gaming consoles, economists are predicting that Japan is about to get financially hit like what happened to Greece and Ireland. There's not going to be a lot of spendthrift shoppers this year.
