Forums - Sony - Rummor: Sony will ban all Jailbroken PS3's Firmeware 3.6

You know, im truly laughing at the fact you guys are all flipping out about hackers in games when we PC gamers have dealt with it for ages. This is why dedicated servers and server admin are important. Oh well, console manufacturers want to make consoles more like PC, they need to learn to handle this better.

this will only hurt afew hackers before the word gets out, unless you have to update as some as you turn on your ps3 before entering the xmb so that could stop people from hacking online games... or maybe the update will make hackers more visible to sony

If Sony truly does have the power to see whther or not your PS3 has a customer firmware on it. They can take you off ban you from PSN no matter what as long as you are online. You wouldn't need to HAVE to download this firmware update. If true that is.

Can't say that KZ3 won't get hacked but if it did get hacked considering it's $ony's firt-party it will get patched really quick from GG!

Banned = yes. Too many hackers ruin the online experence.

This way they get the freedom to fuck up their machine anyway they like but we remove the cheating threat out of the online play.

Additionally, I wouldn't mind seeing plenty of bricked systems too.

Yes, they should be banned...

And then stop looking after modders, it's enough loss and restrictions in the official firmware.
And besides playing games for free, some modders sometimes do interesting stuff (see xbmc), so stop trying to prevent it so much, something interesting can come out of here. Banning from PSN should be enough as nowadays playing offline only removes half the fun and would be enough to prevent most people turning to the dark side.

well.. why does everyone screw up terms, there is a vast difference then modders, programmers, hackers, and pirates.

Modders do this http://www.geekologie.com/2008/02/07/rainbow-six-mod-1.jpg

Programmers do this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SusxH3kknQE

Hackers do this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/17/palins-email-account-hack_n_127184.html

Pirates do this: http://cristgaming.com/pirate.swf

Well, using Yahoo recovery system after investigating biographical details of Palin is not hacking... She might as well had her password written on her hand... And the guy left a lot of traces, i mean, using only a proxy? and an accessible one at that? he even posted his email address and the used url... He's not a hacker, he's just a dumb felon...

I agree with the other ones though...

Banned them all, lol, is not fair for everyone else this idiots are going around and Jailbreaking their system just to save a few bucks, i hope Sony does the right thing and bannes every single one of you(jailbreakers) once you sign in to PSN.

Well, actually, in this case, I think I'm right.

We're talking about a modification of the original software to make in run game copies, aren't we?
So... the people making the modifications are modders.
I'm not talking about the people using the modifications, but the programmers that write the mods.

Hackers has different meanings, sometimes a security expert that uses his knowledge to mess with software (making servers die, take control of a server or gain access to information), sometimes a security expert that uses his knowledge to fill the holes in security on a system, sometimes (in the free software community) a normal programmer with no special field of knowledge who just spend time making software better, sometimes (original meaning if I'm right, I'm still french and my english is far from perfect) it's a guy in his garage fixing the vacuum cleaner with a pipe and toilet paper, etc...
But the guy hacking the sarah palin account is hardly a hacker. He's smart, for sure, but filling the password field of a webpage doesn't make you a hacker.

I don't stand corrected :)

They will know Helgan belongs to Helghasts

can they do that?

I'm a n00b and new to this site, but I'm just wondering. What if you had the hacked firmware and then you went clean and went back to the Retail firmware and deleted the modified patches I put for MW2 and CoD4, will they still ban you? I've been clean for the past few days...
