Forums - Sony - PSP2: What it Really Needs

I heard rumours of the blu ray UMD (might be false though). but imho PSP had/has some truely amazing games, just Nintendo won in terms of price points and accessible games to the mass consumer like Mario and Braintraining.

and imho, i have no idea what Sony could do to stop 3DS and 3D. obviously i dont want the PSP2 to fail, but i dont know how well it can do without 3D tbh.

LOL the latest 'rumors' are in

"A 5 in OLED display
Quad core CPU - ARM Cortex A-9 customized by Son
Quad Core GPU - PowerVR SGX 543 MP4
1gb of Ram
3G and wireless capabilities"

:P it's gonna cost an arm and leg if this is true which would suck cuz then I'll have to wait till next year to get it, I wonder if sony will say eff to the competition with 3ds and go on the premium product route, for my wallets sake I hope not

UMD? Are you serious?

Why not? It may not be the best storage medium but its certainly not the worst. If they could just get drive speeds faster it would be fine. And Backwards compatibility is fairly important. Especially seeing as quite a few games are still being pumped out for the PSP even over the next year or two. Do you really want the PSP2 to cut off all those fresh games?

Because UMD is dead. It's not gonna happen, just forget about it and move on.

I take it you're willing to pay $2000 for this thing, then?

It sounds delightful. Unfortunately, good things are expensive.

Actually many of these things wouldn't cost Sony much at all due to the fact the technology is already there and there are cost effective devices that already utilize them. The only thing I think is a bit unrealistic is the inclusion of UMD drive AND 2mem stick ports. It will probably be an either or thing. Then most of the points are made are not even hardware additions but interface/software tweaks. Like I said, Sony is already working on PS Cloud im just suggesting how it is implemented. 3G was rumored and highly likely with all the leaks over the past few days.

Features and Battery Life of course. Price Is only partially relative becuase costs go down.....eventually. Also more than half of what I said is all but officially going to be in the PSP2 and others are not hardware issues but accessibility of the market issues. I think what I have in OP is a highly obtainable goal.

And what about the physical medium itself makes it dead? Thats just something sites have been saying in reference to the software not selling and high pirate rates. Nothing about UMD really is a failure. I'm positive costs to make them are ridiculously low now and UMD is still harder to pirate then DD :P

All these things are available on $600 cutting edge phones, not the $300 phones.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

That is with a contract. It does not cost $299. The actual price is over $600, but that price is paid over a 2 year contract.
