Forums - General - Russian airport comes under terrorist attack

Attacks against Russia sounds reasonable for what Russia did, sadly Chechnya is just an criminal country, their hate against Russia may be justified in the eyes of Western citizens and Chechnyans may be reported as the innocent victims;.... but at the same time Chechnyans are fighting in Afghanistan and are probably the reason why the fatalities of USA, UK, Canadian soldiers are increasing fast....

The independance of Chechnya will lead to an new criminal country like Iran..

Not like Iran, more like Taliban Afghanistan, a country with no law aside from extremist whims, and no infrastructure outside extremist brute force. Iran at least has a civil society and is doing decently enough (outside of mass corruption in the Revolutionary Guard, anyway), but Russia leaving would lead to the dissolution of government there, which is Russian

While I don't agree with this bombing in any way... I have to say I wish Russia would just leave Chechnya. Their ridiculous hold on this province is just stupid. World powers can't keep forcing massive groups of people to remain in their country if they choose not to be. Especially, when they are not the same people.

Chechnya should be its own state, like Palestine, like Tibet, like the recent Sudan split, etc.

95% of chechnyas people do now want a independent country (thus, want to stay in russia)

i only have a german source for the poll though

you cant reflect the thoughts of the extremists onto the whole nation

Considering that the Chechnyan rebels are a popularist group, I'd wager that they have a very large support from the populace.

Not anymore, though public opinion is impossible to guage at this point, but the struggle was really co-opted by the radicals long ago. Now they are still able to recruit, but what's been going on with the new Governor of the territory is that he's been consolidating power pretty well, forcing the extremists to the margins, which is forcing them to use more extreme tactics as they are pushed out. The people probably just want the killing to end at this point, and the fastest route to that is to let the Governor do what needs to be done

Plus Chechnya didn't fare too well when the Russians left the first time. Between 96 and 99 was a period of total chaos for the territory, even if it had de facto independence

Aren't most people in Chechynia... not Cecchynians?

Poor old Iran has already been mentioned twice despite this thread being only about Russia and Chechnya. Amazing what propaganda can do so quicky to the naive.

According to Wiki, they constitute over 90% of the population (Chechens)

Russians 77,274 (19.0%) 157,621 (28.1%) 40,645 (3.7%)
Kumyks 2,217 (0.5%) 3,305 (0.6%) 8,883 (0.8%)
Ingushes 154 (0.0%) 4,336 (0.8%) 2,914 (0.3%)
Others 34,112 (8.4%) 34,088 (6.1%) 19,597 (1.8%)

Such a fucking cowardly act...all suicide bombing in general is.

On topic, I'm surprised Russia hasn't carpet bombed parts of Chechnya where the rebbels are to be honest... These so called rebbels have killed 1000s of Russian civilians in the last 10 years.

Maybe NATO will bomb them if they try to defend their country? Remember 1999? Milosrdni Anđeo/Mercifull Angel?

Man, I agree. And it's so fucking sad.

I'll leave it at that.

Though I will mention I'm no saint when it comes to believing propaganda without doing proper research (3 years ago and before).

I hope we're not referring to me here. I compared Iran favorably to a potentially independent Chechnya and to Taliban-era Afghanistan. Iran is no worse off than anywhere else in the middle east, more stable internally than Yemen or Lebanon, and with a solid social infrastructure. Despite sponsoring terrorism, they themselves are not a terrorist state (they can get a little vindictive with scapegoating, but a great many nations are guilty of that)

Yeah, Lebanon is a fun situation now.  Hezbollah supported prime minister.

Should be interesting.

Regardless of whether they have a proper issue with Russie or not, I will never condone attacking civilians. Attack military targets, or political targets, that I can understand and even some collateral damage may happen indirectly, but directly attacking civilians is something I certainly can't abide by. You lose all of my sympathy with that.
