Forums - Nintendo - 3DS could save Wii!

It's something that should happen much more often, but won't. I have this feeling developers are still going to skip Wii releases... I mean Wii fans have been begging for a Wii version of SFIV and a RE4 style game for years, and here the 3DS and iPhone not only sooner get them than the Wii, but there's no Wii port planned whatsoever. I don't know what it is, but 3rd party developers love to release niche games on the Wii and think the sales of those games represent everything they release on the system.

I read the opening post and I still don't think the Wii need saving.

Pixel Art can be fun.

@lordtheknight  im confused, you dont want the 3DS to get support because the devs are supporting some gimmick???

No, I want them to support it for reasons of a possible huge audience, and support the Wii for reasons that the audience is there (they just don't want to admit it), not for reasons of "Nintendo finally gave in to our demands and made a powerful system", which doesn't have to be stated by developers. A lot of what they are doing shows it.

The Wii desperately needs saving, but it won't receive it. The sales of the system are in free fall, we are going to see sub 100k weeks in a few months.

Which will all be made up for again after it sells an insane amount during the holidays.

I have to disagree. Nintendo Wii will see a boost holiday 2011, but not enough to really save it. Sales are dropping far to fast even LOZ won't be enough to hold off the inevitable. Though Wii is still selling better then PS2 was at this point it is in no doubt in need of saving.

What's left that Nintendo can release on Wii to save it? All the big franchises are present (Except F-Zero, StarFox). Their is nothing left. Nintendo could release Vitality Sensor and I don't think even that could turn Wii's sales around. 2012 will be the year Nintendo releases its next system and to be honest Nintendo needs it.

Now I was saying that if third parties begin porting 3DS games to Wii they could prolong Wii's life by a few more years. If sufficient software kept coming out for the Wii it could live another 2-3 years maybe longer. Look at the PS2 still getting games thanks to the PSP.

But as Rol said the Wii is in need of saving, as others said titles from developers who don't usually port won't be. The examples Resident Evil, MGS, Dead Or Alive, the PS2 never got ports. But for titles from Activision and other publishers which routinely port titles to handhelds or vice versa to consoles this could help prolong Wii's life!

@lordtheknight  so you used to be mad that the Wii wasnt getting the games you think they should have gotten and know that the 3DS is getting those games your not happy??? I thought you would be happy that 3rd parties are giving Ninty the games it "deserves"

The only reason the 3DS is getting support is because the only way to sell handheld software, at this point, is to have it one the DS or a phone/Ipod device.  Consoles are completely different as the 360 and PS3 have over 50% of the marketshare and it has proven to be a more profitable venture to release a title on both, support it with DLC, possibly put it on PC so the Steam crowd can eat it up.

Then you seemed to think I'm a Nintendo fanboy. Once again, this is about principle. They aren't supposed to support the system that pleases them (which is why they were willing to work on the PS3, which is objectively harder, more time consuming, and more expensive to utilize than the Wii), which is what they are doing with the 3DS. They are supposed to support the system that the customers chose, and showed that they are willing to buy even those kinds of games, as long as they are given them.

Those companies could make money and customers with the 3DS, but they could ALSO make EVEN MORE money and customers STILL by supporting the Wii. Instead we get them treating Wii owners like dirt, and playing bullshit tricks to "prove" they won't buy those games.

RE4 was declared to be a market test. It passed. It was clear that wasn't what Capcom wanted, so Okami was declared to be the test, and it was given with no real content improvement, and no marketing.

So they aren't supporting the 3DS out of respect for their custumers, or they would be showing resptect to them on the Wii.

This is why companies like Sega (aside from a few dumb comments from some of their people) and Activision are not a problem, because they know the audience is there, and that they will buy their games. Companies like Capcom and Take Two are the problem, because they are going for prestige, not customers.

And that does hurt in the long run, as they will stop making products that the customers want, and the sales will suffer.

You know, the OP actually makes sense, I can see his point, and I can really see it happening, too.
