Why not, you don't know why somebodies there.  Nobody should be trying to "surprise" you by breaking into your property that's a crime.  That's like saying you shouldn't be able to stop someone from stealing from you because they may just be trying to get you an engraving!

This reminds me of the accident with the skaters a couple of days ago...

Some teens are skating a guy is searching trouble with the skaters...Gets mad get in his house and comes out with an AK-47 and start to shoot..

It's not a stupid law at all. If you want target practice you need a secure space, where the chances of hurting yourself or others is very very limited. Your backyard is not a secure space, regardless of how big it may be.

Yes, I'm sure the danger of people getting blitzed and blind-firing into a forest on their property at night while it's foggy are a real concern.

You can't legislate the stupid out of stupid people. The same thing could be said for motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, off-road trucks, continue ad nauseum.
