I would like to thank David Cage for making such a great game, one of the most emotionally thrilling games ever that I've played.
It was unputdownable.

I wouldn't have commented here, save for that.
Just because CoD doesn't have pretentions of being a movie doesn't make is some kind of tripe for the mass market.
Heck, this game likely didn't sell better because people can actually watch movies instead of watching an awkward melding of games and movies, which is not original by the way. They've just been niche for years, and for that very reason.
BTW, before you go, "you goint off on this game again?", I'm not. I'm going off on the "people don't understand true art" crap that I see thrown around.

the fact that this game is niche and it did that well is even more cause for celebration, it did well no amount of spinning will change that

Not personally denying it did well (unlike Shenmue, it was a game of this type that sold a million copies and made money), but this is not automatically cause for celebration.
How much of the gameplay was in the trailers and ads? I can't rembember even on of the prompts, the very core of the gameplay, in the ads. I just saw something typical of a lot of games ("a lot", not "all"), which is to show virtually none of the gameplay, and just the most "intense" or "dramatic" parts of the cut scenes.
If the ads had shown the gameplay, and the game still sold these numbers, that would mean this kind of game sold for what it was. But this just shows that good trailers can get good openings, which is not something new in any medium.
No, I'm not putting down the game for that. This is more me being annoyed that a lot of marketing companies are afraid of selling video games by showing the actual game parts.

Where do you live?? cause i didnt even see any commercials for the game in the US. Are you suggesting that people were tricked into buying it??? I dont think people are that stupid. The game was getting enough coverage that the PS3 fanbase knew exactly what it was. I dont see the "casual" crowd buying a 60 dollar movie

You obviously don't know about deceptive ands and trailers for movies and games. Plus just because you didn't see any doesn't mean there weren't any.

@lordtheknight how about you give me a link to a US TV ad and tell me how it was deceptive, ive seen the Euro ones and their was nothing in that ad that did NOT appear in the game. Heavy Rain is a cinematic type of game, im going go out on a limb and say that you didnt even play it. WHy the hell would they not show the cinematics since thats a good chunk of the game? THe entire is just one big QTE which is cinematic anyway. Now the Force Unleashed 2 tv ads that was deceptive, i dont know why some people cant just say "good job" and keep it moving
