Forums - PC - Why are steam prices in Australia so high for some games

Yeah, steam sales... Wait for them.

On a sidenote the minimum wage for the US is 7.25 USD and even less in some industries. If the minimum wage in australia is 15... And US gamers pay 60$ for a game while Australian gamers pay $90... That doesn't seem so bad, since the price could be 120.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Actually, you ARE getting it from the UK, that's a UK store that sells to Aus / NZ gamers specifically so the mail time is kinda long (5 days ) the money are all in Aus dollars though and the shipping is free so I've never complained.

I use to buy most of my stuff from playasia, but ozgameshop is arguably cheaper and provide UK version of games rather than Asian.

oh righto. thats cool anyways. 5 days is better than 2-4 weeks from hong kong

I think it is to keep the prices on par with retail copies of the games. 3 years ago (or there abouts) all games were priced same as in the US steam (e.g. $49.99)...if only that was the case now.

i like steam because I can download games and start playing ASAP. Ebay has cheap games that you can import from Honk Kong - I'd check them out if you don't want to pay $89 for black ops, etc.

The RRP of games here is $120 PS3/360, $100 Wii/PC, its just that some retailers like JB Hi-Fi sell for under the RRP to get people into the store. It is also worth noting that while the minimum wage is higher in Australia the cost of living is also higher (eg average house price in brisbane is over $400,000 and brisbane is cheap compared to melbourne or sydney).

cost of living is very high.

Houses in Melbourne in some areas only 10 years ago were costing 30,000 well now they are worth 1.4 milion and they are small homes.

A millionaire simply isn't something to brag about anymore, even an average chump with a mediocre 9-5 job can be worth a million in net asset because a decent size suburban house these days in a nice neighbourhood could be anywhere from 700k and up.
