Forums - Gaming - FPSes: returning to dual analogue after Wiimote

If the FPS is designed with the controller/mouse/wii mote in mind then it really doesn't matter what you play with.

Though I think PSP and DS are a different story.

You're not the first person to say this. In fact, your wording is so familiar that I'm sure you're well aware that this topic has been discussed at length. It's about as dumb as saying you can't go back to Wii games after experiencing HD graphics.

That's quite a tone you're taking.  Anyway, I asked the question because I wasn't sure if it was a common problem or not - I was surprised to find myself struggling with a control method I used to be quite comfortable with.

I wouldn't agree that aesthetics and control are particularly comparable, or that to ask a question about controls is dumb.

Sorry. It's just that you're about 4 years late to this realization.

You're asking if it's common having to adjust to change? That does sound like a bit of a dumb question to be honest.

No, I was asking if it's common to find a specific control change for a specific genre difficult, which is far more nuanced than your (dumb?) summation of what I was asking.  I'm not finding going back to analogue control for PGR4 anywhere near as difficult, despite having got used to using the Wii wheel for driving games in recent years.

I cannot go back to dual analog again. That was the reason why I pretty much hated FPS's all the way.

Wii pointer is more precise and natural, when done good obviously. There are plenty of shitty FPS's on the Wii control wise.

you get use to it i got an ps3 in late 2008 after 2 years with the wii playing only shooters.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Sadly, it's also a very underrepresented genre given how suited the controller is to it.  My worry is that despite now having a console with a considerably better selection of FPSes, I won't be able to get into any of them because I now find the dual analogue control mechanism too frustrating.  When Doom 4 comes out, that'll really bother me!  I'd settle for a port of Doom 3 on the Wii.

I bought a CCP to play GoldenEye and Black Ops and I found it difficult to use since I've gotten used to the Wiimote. The only way that I can play "ok" with the CCP is if I use aim assist but I absolutely HATE using aim assist :/

If I wanted the best controls to play a FPS I'd play on my PC.

But there's more to an experience than the controls.

Of course there is, but I'm finding that controls are a bigger part of some gaming experiences than I expected.

The controls with the Wii Remote are definitely quicker and more precise.

Try playing GoldenEye with both control schemes if you don't believe me.

while I'm not a huge fan of the genre, I think the Wiimote is far better, but I can easily go back to dual analogue
