Forums - Microsoft - FPS on Kinect. Controlled with just 1 hand.

So this is how it is then; if this video does not convince me or someone else that Kinect is the best way to play FPS (and probably all other games) we are haters and refuse to admit how baffled we are at how astonishingly this works?

My god this place is full of conspiracy theorists, its like being in a Robert Ludlum novel...

I bet that on the other hand he's got a controller to walk around.

I wonder if it works as good as Wii pointer controls, some people say it is better than a mouse (And I agree on that front) and yet there's people claiming the opposite.

Also, this is just the pointer controls. That's about 5% of the total gameplay keys of an FPS. No way you can play an entire FPS with good controls on a kinect. You'll always need a controller.

So close-minded, the video clearly demonstrates how he moves, looks, aims, shoots, and reloads all with one hand. This is just some random hacker, devs will find a perfect control scheme that will silence all you naysayers. Even though time after time when it proves you wrong you continue to just troll and bash it.

Best?  No.  Definitely playable?  Yes.

Agreed, and that was my whole point. Thank you!

Its fun doing something different sometimes but as a rule I think I'll stick to keyboard and mouse for a while longer.

outside of novelty and "Because-I-Can" value, i can't see how Kinect would be a viable input method for FPS's in it's current form.

trying to remember which gesture does what and blowing off your characters own foot because you scratched your nose accidentally might get a bit tiresome.

For years people have been coming up with alternative controllers for FPS's, especially on the PC, but nothing has come as close in popularity as the good old mouse and keyboard.

Also, i have a suspicion that anyone trying this style of input method for an online FPS against others with controllers is in for a rough time.

Kinect is awesome, but i don't see the point in trying to adapt it to a situation like this where it not only might not shine, but could very easily put people off if not executed properly - much better imo to use the Kinect in more innovative  genres.

Devs would have to come up with a shooting FPS-like genre built from the ground up for Kinect to take many scalps in this arena imo.

You know, we could be modelled as a Zoo, all we do is fling feces at each other, feces being a metaphor obviously.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

console controllers say hello. In fact all the complaints against kinect  are the same ones used when  console controllers were first used for FPS.

I expected a more open minded reception from some of the posters here.

This is a proof of concept from 1 guy, not a full dev team. It's far from perfect but has huge possibilities when you add another hand or voice or head/body tracking. It may not ever dethrone a KB/M combo for twitch shooters but for something like Fallout 3 it may work really well.

So you're one of the ones that doesn't even want to play them with a controller, eh?  But many do, as they have adjusted to be better played with a controller.  I'd expect the same here.

When I consider pics of these two games, Kinect for a FP game seems even cooler.
