In 2010 both Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s X360 saw year-over-year growth in the UK while Nintendo’s Wii suffered a 4% decline. According to recently released sales data, last year the PS3 surpassed the Wii making it the second best selling console in the UK.

The situation isn’t as rosy for Sony’s PSP however. The handheld continues to see a decline in the UK. Also on the downside were sales peripherals which fell by 13.5% despite the release of Sony’s Move and Microsoft’s Kinect.
Overall, £800m was generated in hardware sales in 2010 with £232m coming from the 360 and £229m from the PS3. Both systems contributed to over half of the hardware sales in the UK but the market still dropped by 13.2% when compared to 2009.
