Play Silent Hill 2. Right now.

what system is it on?

PS2. There's also a Director's Cut available for the original Xbox which includes an additional sidestory or something like that.

Other than that I have nothing to add to the topic, because "no major conflicts, blablabla..."

cool might check it. its prob super cheap.

The first Silent Hill was released in 1991 on PS1 I believe... so technically its more the other way around really.

As for this entry in the series, I'm optimistically pessimistic about it, if that makes sense.

Silent Hill 2 (and to a lesser extend 4) for me mapped out what I want - a physcological horror narrative where the emphasis is not on combat or traditional gameplay but the atmosphere and the experience of a journey down a dark path with your protagonist - something SH2 in particular pulled off supremely well.

I'm not really sure the current market can support that kind of title well, and I'm sure that in the end they'll try and shove in too much combat, but we'll see.

Really, speaking of Alan Wake that probably neatly sums up my fears for the title.  Remedy tried to capture an element of SH mood (and borrow - or is that steal?) a generous helping of Twin Peaks atmosphere into the bargin, but in the end it ended up mainly combat centric and repetitive without a deep enough narrative to carry it through (it also nabbed a fair bit from In The Mouths of Maddness as well thinking about it).

A good SH title is about the town, and the experiences of someone drawn to it.  Something that peaked with SH2 but has been wavery in the series ever since.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Nice new preview and tribute to Silent Hill fans!

interesting read. My faith in Vatra has now been slightly restored but I'm still remaining skeptical about it...

i hope this is similar to alan wake i loved that one

I liked most silent hill games, and Im sure ill like this one. The only one I hated was the PSP one.

Hope they bring back slightly akward controls and bizarre moments/story. Homecoming wasn't bad but played it a little to cut and dry for my taste.

Hell, they should hire the team that did Deadly Preminition and give them more than 50 bucks to make a game and call it Silent Hill.

well then similar to the true RE(1-3) i loved those ones.iam glad we are seeing some good horror games this gen even some horror shooters

Huh? It won't play like those either. Silent Hill never has. I agree about good horror games though, there have been a good amount. It's just a shame that true survival/psychological horror fans are hard to find nowadays.

If you're looking for another horror title (or two) June has two: Amy (PSN), F.3.A.R. (PS3/360/PC). I have an Amy thread in the Sony section you should check out.

ill look into f.e.a.r maybe ill play the previous 2.i love horror games. everytime i remember what resident evil has become i feel sad and angry.
