Challenging battles!  Epic storylines!!  Memorable enemies!!  Incredibly addictive upgrade systems for weapons, items, and armor!! FF13 has none of that.

It does have a pretty fun battle system (maybe the best ever) once you get hooked on preparing yourself for battles and choosing the right paradigms (takes about 20 hours or something, though).  Graphics are sexy, too.  My biggest gripes were that money was almost useless, characters were shallow and forgetable, and there weren't a lot of different enemy types.  I think you'll get your money's worth but come into it with realistic expectations or your feelings are going to be hurt.

EDIT: so far, its pretty boring. The cut-scenes look nice but the combat is waaayyy to easy. Gonna keep playing 

EDIT 2: i just got to play around with the paradigm stuff. The battles are still easy and boring lol. Don't know how much longer ill last.

if you're an FF fan... you need to play it to not feel dumb

 

that said... I need to finish XII that I left at 60% on hiatus for 2 years now... and I actually liked it.

You are lucky, I got through 50% of FF12 then gave up out of boredom, its the only FF I haven't been able to finish. Hopefully the franchise is killed soon by The Last Story.

The battles stay easy and boring until about 30 hours in. Good luck.

alright so i just got bombarded at Hopes house 13 hours in. The battle system has grown on me <3. However, the I have to say the character acting and progression is really weak. These people are as fake as the jersey shore lol.

Dammit!  I know Chapter 7 was a drag.  Well if you're that far then there's no point in betting since everything gets better from here on.  Kinda.

Wow, that many people hated it?

I will agree, story is sorta meh, you can get by just hitting "X" for the first 10 hours or so of the game, and I disliked the forced locking of the crystal grid (or whatever) but I mean the battle system was really, really good and the last 20-30 hours were good.

Was it a 100% fantastic game?  Nope.  Characters coulda used a lot of work and there were flaws but people are saying it wasn't even worth the time to play it?  I mean, absolutely no enjoyment in it whatsoever? Do people have no patience any more?  Why so much hate?

My third favorite RPG this Gen, after Mass Effect 2 and Demons' Souls. Enjoy. Game gets better after Chapter 7, btw.
