Forums - Gaming - IGN:- PS3 vs Xbox 360 Year in Review 2010

Can't believe people are trying to argue Kinect titles vs Move.  Going by the posts and taking Metacritic as the judge then I don't see why either side is getting excited.

Kinect has marginally better titles going by the scores, but we're talking minor gaps - Dance Central at 83 vs Sports Champions at 79 for example, neither has a title above 85% at the moment (talking about pure Kinect/Move titles) and for both peripherals the majority of their titles have scored rather poorly.

So Kinect has arguably slightly better titles, and Move arguably has the better extended titles - RE5 is very good with Move and is clearly the only AAA title on either periperhal at the moment, Heavy Rain and EyePet (which always felt like a Move title rushed out before Move launched) all play better with Move and have decent scores.

I'd argue the extended Move titles - which are there, usable and work well - cancels out the marginal Kinect titles advantage.

Either way, there are more dodgy titles around than good ones right now for each device.

Seriously, whether a fan of Kinect or Move you don't have much basis to claim one set of titles is better than the other.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I think I remember seeing article about Hillary turning into a PS3 fan? Is that a girl? Because I thought Hillary was a girl's name..

Anyway, IGN? Really? If I wanted to read some bullshit material I'd go and get The Sun.

Tumble, Heavy Rain, The Fight, Resident Evil 5, Echochrome ii, The Shoot, Funky Lab Rat,  (I would add flight control HD but I get the feeling I'm the only one who loves this game)

I think they mean games designed for it so Resident Evil and Heavy Rain both not included, dunno about the rest.

To quote the OP, "Now onto the 360.....no mention at the lack of exclusives? How could Hilary have overlooked this number one problem?! And when I mean exclusives I don't just mean console or timed exclusive or better versions of third party games. That is the number one issue for the 360 right now as far as being a hardcore gamer goes."

Quite a paragraph. Here is what I learned of the OP's view of "hardcore gamer" is:

1. Plays the console with the most amount of exclusives

2. Hardcore = Exclusives

From what I am reading, it sounds to me like the OP should be a Nintendo diehard as Nintendo from the NES has been the system with the most amount of 1st party exclusive titles year after year. Sony found success with the PS1 through third party games, which according to what the OP has written would hardly make the PS1 an exclusive laden console for the "hardcore" gamer.

I am not going to quibble with what IGN writes. I find their website, other than being a portal for advertisements, fairly solid in their editorials and op-ed pieces. I desire IGN to cover Nintendo a tad more fairly, but it is understandable why they don't considering the attitude of IGN's staff, which is easily ascertained by reading through IGN's articles.

I think it was the PS3 with a lack of exclusives this year. Micrsoft probabily had its best year for exclusives with Halo and Mass Effect 2 being 2 of the biggest games of the year (although sales wise Mass Effect not so much). and Mass Effect dosent count as exclusive in 2 weeks, but it was probabily their best year.

and Little Big Planet 2 was pushed into 2011, (which was a good move imho).

I've never met a guy called Hillary in my life. And I really don't like IGN, big publications tend to turn corrupt or ruin the gaming journalism as a whole, if I wanted reviews I'd personally look up the Guardian reviews or Destructoid

I can't believe people fight over the whole MOVE Vs Kinect thing. Unthinkible 3/4 years ago were people were more interested in fights about particle effects, screen resolution and the number of polygons in a figure.

people just like fighting regardless of what it's about. Don't remember the fights over two pictures that look identical but each side arguing thiers is the better one?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Now I know each console have their own editors but I thought Greg Miller (PS3) was too hard on the PS3 and Hillary Goldstein (360) not harsh enough on the 360.

Greg bemoaned at the lack of exclusives on the PS3 in the last half of 2010 and the dissapointment of GT5 while Hilary moaned about Medal of Honour (WTF) and XBL getting worse?!

I thought the complaints were misplaced. PS3 while not getting as many exclusives in the second half of the year could still rely on some fantastic third party games. Just because a game is exclusive doesn't mean it's any good, in fact some of the best games of 2010 were third party. Maybe Sony should've spaced out the exclusives better.

Now onto the 360.....no mention at the lack of exclusives? How could Hilary have overlooked this number one problem?! And when I mean exclusives I don't just mean console or timed exclusive or better versions of third party games. That is the number one issue for the 360 right now as far as being a hardcore gamer goes.

But judging by the two articles I think it's very telling at the current state the consoles find themselves in. 360 is heading in the Wii direction and doing it very well while the PS3 is going all out for the hardcore market in 2011. I think tactically Sony are doing well but stratigically I'm going to give my vote to MS. I'm just glad to own both consoles.

Did you even read what you wrote?

It seemed to me they were looking for something to moan about. PS3 had plenty of good actual exclusives in 2010 and also some fantastic third party games throughout the year. The exclusive games were not an issue for the PS3 in 2010.

But the 360 has a real issue at the dearth of exclusives that one can only play on the 360. And there was no mention of it at all. It's like they were trying to avoid mentioning it. That's poor journalism.
