Forums - Sony - PS3 hack taken to new level now hackers able to get tons of free Trophies

I hope they don't lock things down further. It's already annoying having copy protected files. I know I can never get 100% completion in a game like Little Big Planet so I'd rather load up a save from somebody who has gotten nearly all of it done so I can have access to the items so I have more to play around with.

I know in a case like this you can't get any trophies if you load up another profile, but I'm just saying. It's annoying enough seeing copy protected files.

Whats the point of doing this !?

To make it seem like you've actually achieved something in life.

It's quite sad, isn't it?

It's beyond sad. I get my own gamerscore, don't need no USB stick to increase my internet penis size. Consider this viagra of sorts, it'll boost you, but not for long. In this case until MS or Sony catches you.

For some reason I got a really weird mental picture in my head of a stereotypical nerd running away with a massive boner, getting chased by the characters from exclusive games, Master chief, Snake in his wheelchair, Drake, Shepherd, Ratchet and Clank, Helghast, etc.

Lol, the person who created this hack should have used the resources for something more productive like adding more  codecs (.mkv would probably be the most desired) to PS3 through homebrew.

Anything is more productive than cheating to obtain virtual trophies.

It's a side effect. Tbh I would have personally left it at Jailbreak, so they wouldn't have the reason to poke around further and stumble upon the master code that leaves the whole system open. The hacking of the system has proven to boost HW sales, I don't think that the software sales are effected THAT much seeing as X360 still has a decent attach rate despite being hacked years ago.

Maybe even if thet original hackers didn't intend the hack to be used in such a way(Piracy, Trophy manipulation, ign cheating etc), it's not their fault there are people who are vile enough to pounce upon the slightest of opportunities to exploit the hack, I don't think the whole suing them thing is a good idea, they'll just end up being martyrs to the cause and even more hackers will flood to the PS3 homebrew scene. Unnecessary media attention tbh, but at least now Sony fanboys can't complain about PS3 not getting any marketing x)

Unfortunately you're right about the exploitation of the hack to get piracy, trophy hacking, etc.

X360 also appeals to the casual demographic more than the PS3 and has a higher attach rate like you mentioned.  Also hacking the 360 excludes you from getting in on the integrated experience that is XBL.  If I'm not mistaken, you can't be detected on PSN using the CFW on PS3 due to having the master keys.

I'm also disappointed in the fact that Sony is suing the hackers and Geohot.  The hack is already distributed, whats the point in suing?

I think they're trying to go for the whole "See what happens when you fuck with our property" sort of thing, but I think it'll end up backfiring even more especially if they win and alot more people will flood to the scene to exploit the openenness of the system, yeah the master key is a real bite in the ass.

Posted already. Also just to make my point known again. If you need to hack trophies then you seriously are a pathetic joke.

You've been quite angry lately...

IMO this is a good thing in a way... It proves how useless trophies are (ohhh I want to shoooow off how many trophiez I got in Dis Game Dooood).

How? How do losers that need to hack trophies compare to people that put in the serious time and effort to get them? If anything, this makes trophies useless because anyone can get them now but before this, trophies showed that you really put alot of effort into mastering a game. You can't say that a hack shows the concept of a trophy system is pointless.

So does anyone really know if this problem can be potentially fixed via firmware updates etc? I know they say it would require new hardware (aka bring out the PS4) or they could start looking into fixes for future models of the PS3. But is anyone confident that Sony will get this problem under control? It's a shame this had to happen to such a great console. As long as this problem doesn't affect my system, account, or my online experience, then i'm fine.

Here's hoping Sony comes up with a quick fix soon :( it's a shame this had to happen though, seriously. Especially with the release of DCUO, and future releases of UC3, KZ3, R3, and other great titles.. I don't want to see these games get plagued by hackers due to someone feeling the need to expose the systems security code.

But I never get a sense of achievement because it doesn't affect my game at all in any way. Leveling up in an MMO and being able to use a new weapon through that level up is more of an achievement because in game you gain strength, etc. Trophies and achievements do no such thing (from what I've seen and done).

Wow talk about taking the love for brand power a bit too far. You're actually wishing misfrotune upon someone just because your favourite corporation got hacked? I can't say they care for you in similar fashion.

I don't think Piracy can be stopped now bar release of new console but that would mean abandoning PS3. Even if they release a revision of Slim, I think it will still use exactly the same codes otherwise the previous PS3 games will not be compatible with it, so kind of ruining the point of releasing a new revision. I don't think there is a fix for Piracy or introduction of homebrew software. What Sony can do however is ban/punish the users who use the hack maliciously, game cheating, trophy glitching etc, but I think someone mentioned before that Sony has no way to tell the difference between legitimate trophies or the ones that have been glitched, so they'll likely just get away with it.

what's wrong with all these Ps3 hack threads!?

the only hack i would be interested in would be one that enables Ps2 playback on slim Ps3   :  (

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

This severly upsets me :( so much for people earning their platinums.. Do you have a feeling that Sony may strike a deal with George Hotz and possibly hire him?

Can't say, it's not out of the question but they took the "Let's rape him for all he's got" route. If they hire him he will no doubt create some sort of backdoor encase Sony does something like removing Linux again, so it is a risk lol. But I highly doubt they will.
