Agreed.  And don't get me wrong, homebrew can be awesome.  But it seems more often than not, hackers are more interested in fucking up your system (viruses/bugs) and your gaming experience (cheating/trophy unlocks).  At least they are usually the first types on the scene, and when not, they just start to outnumber the homebrew developers.

Lol, the person who created this hack should have used the resources for something more productive like adding more  codecs (.mkv would probably be the most desired) to PS3 through homebrew.

Anything is more productive than cheating to obtain virtual trophies.

It's a side effect. Tbh I would have personally left it at Jailbreak, so they wouldn't have the reason to poke around further and stumble upon the master code that leaves the whole system open. The hacking of the system has proven to boost HW sales, I don't think that the software sales are effected THAT much seeing as X360 still has a decent attach rate despite being hacked years ago.

Maybe even if thet original hackers didn't intend the hack to be used in such a way(Piracy, Trophy manipulation, ign cheating etc), it's not their fault there are people who are vile enough to pounce upon the slightest of opportunities to exploit the hack, I don't think the whole suing them thing is a good idea, they'll just end up being martyrs to the cause and even more hackers will flood to the PS3 homebrew scene. Unnecessary media attention tbh, but at least now Sony fanboys can't complain about PS3 not getting any marketing x)

Unfortunately you're right about the exploitation of the hack to get piracy, trophy hacking, etc.  

X360 also appeals to the casual demographic more than the PS3 and has a higher attach rate like you mentioned.  Also hacking the 360 excludes you from getting in on the integrated experience that is XBL.  If I'm not mistaken, you can't be detected on PSN using the CFW on PS3 due to having the master keys.

I'm also disappointed in the fact that Sony is suing the hackers and Geohot.  The hack is already distributed, whats the point in suing?
