Forums - Nintendo - Question about Donkey Kong Country Returns

While I was playing the game, I died a bunch of times and the game's Super Guide showed up (the helper pig dude) - I reset the game after that

My question is, If i happen to see Super Guide while I'm playing, then save the game, will it have a permanent effect on my game? Like in NSMBWii, if you saw it you'd never be able to have a shiny save file

Does anybody know if it's the same in DKCR??

There are no penalties whatsoever for seeing the pig waving the flag and asking you to press Plus.

Even using the superguide and coming back later to beat a stage shouldn't have any effect that can be seen afterwards, although I can't confirm this as I've never used the superguide.

How do you know? Have you ever seen it? What if what you think is normal is actually not? (lol, I sound a little crazy there XD)

It's not the fact that It could possibly have a penalty, but add to that the fact that you can't really tell when DKCR is saving, making it pretty hard to know if anything's been saved or not

This sucks >:(

Has anybody used the superguide yet? I avoid it all costs!!!

I guess you could hack into the game and do that, I think I could that but I don't really want to.

Yes, I've seen the pig offering me the superguide, because in some levels it can be a pain to collect the Kong letters, most notably in the mine cart and barrel rocket stages. If there would be any penalties, then I would know of them by now.

DKCR saves automatically after every level, more precisely right after you confirm your results and return back to the world map. The same goes for shopping, whenever you exit the shop the game will be saved too.

but my point is, what if you got the penalty but you didn't know it?

I was hallf way through NSMBWii when I saw some video on IGN or something, I had seen the Super Guide block once but beat the level without using it - I didn't see anything wrong with my save file at all - - - - - - It wasn't until I saw the video that I restarted my save file

Now for NSMBWii, it was easy to beat the game 100% again, but I don't think I have the heart to get all gold medals in the time trials all over again :(

I don't think there is any penalty in New Super Mario Bros Wii for seeing the super guide either, only for using it.

So far I've seen the pig offering Super Guide in those hard-as-balls, supremely awesome temple stages.  Reminds me of Mario Sunshine no-water pump levels in terms of challenge and they represent the only time I can call myself a masochist.

There is... If you see the Super Guide block and save your game then your game save file will never be shiny/sparkle - you know, where those five accomplishment stars show up - even after you beat the game 100%
